Stairway To Heaven - Satanic Messages?

I finished my science final at school, and my friend Jesse started talkin about satanic messages in Stairway To Heaven by Led Zeplin. He told me to play the song backwards. Of course I didn't believe him. So I went home and downloaded a trial of Wave Creator and Smart Audio Converter. I grabbed my dad's original Led Zeplin IV (yes, it was the ORIGINAL) ripped it and used audio converter to turn it into a wave file, then put it in wave creator. Chose the reverse effect, and played it. HOLY ****!!!!! I could clearly hear "satan and 666" (also toolshed???). If you don't belive me try it yourself.

These are all different versions of the alleged message.

This is, quite frankly, bullcrap. Nobody could ever plan a song to sound so normal when played normally, then this "message" when played backwards. I don't think a human mind could possibly process your speech in the manner so you both speak normally and backwards at the same time.

This all works on how suggestive the mind is - when you have the text infront of you of what the message is "supposed to be", our minds hear those words.
But play it backwards to someone who doesn't have the text infront of him, nor have ever heard of this song having such a message and he'd notice nothing.

Thanks fo clearing up! I agree with Tsuyu, and, from my knowledge, if it was added supposedly on purpose, they didn't hav the technology back then.

Yeah, I listened this some time ago. It`s nice and interesting but I have to agree with Tsuyu.
There are rumors that some songs even brainwash you in some way to make you do things. I don`t believe it but it`s a good thing to talk about.

I do agree that it only sounded like it when the words were put infront of you and the band themselves even said that they wasnt aware of it and the record wasnt made to be played Backwards so they had no idea :lol:

Actually you can input backwards messages into songs. Listen to the Judas priest court trial. Rob admitted to putting "Love bites" in the song when played backwards. So your wrong.

There is a legend that The Led Zeppelin hung out with " Mr. Crowley." An evil satanist that put a "curse" on the Led Zeppelin band. They were instructed to write satanist songs. On the night of the curse they sat in front of Jimmy Page's fire place and wrote and recorded "stairway to heaven."

So I think that they were writing satanic music but not by their own will.

Hahahaha. This is ridiculous, there's no such thing as curses or a Mr. Crowley. It's all psychological:


  • Play the song backwards to someone who is unaware of the 'message' and he will hear nothing but gibberish.
  • Play it to someone and provide them with the 'backwards lyrics' and he will be sure he hears just that.
You can do this with any song. There's one with Britney Spears where she supposedly sings 'Sleep with me I'm not too young'. Again something you think you hear when you know about it, yet you hear nothing but gibberish if you don't know about it.

I love Stairway to heaven. It was just a bunch of stoned out hippies, who fried their brains on LSD, who probably came up with that garbage. You could do that with any song, if stoned enough. :P

havent heard about those... though I have heard that the lead singers hand got possessed by a ghost and it wrote the song out... but thats probably crap aswell...
