Stupid Oblivion glitch from Hell - Xbox 360

Anyone here done the Hermaeous Mora (sp?) quest on the XBOX 360 version of Oblivion? The stupid soul trap spell glitched on me horrendously and now I can't complete it - if anyone knows of any workaround other than starting ALL OVER AGAIN which will quite likely kill me, I'd be most grateful. I know the patch for this bug is only available for PC and I've already tried reloading the game and casting the soul trap spell on an inanimate object to try and break the cycle, but no dice...

The reward you get isn't even meant to be all that good but I like to complete everything in a game where possible and to be foiled by some stupid bug is most annoying...:realmad:

I was screwed over with glitches for the PC version and patches didnt come out in time to help me so i never completed Oblivion either. One patch even made things worse because you couldnt use old saves with it but that was again in the small print. So i know how you feel, but unfortunately dont know of any way to fix it.

It drives me nuts when this happens - I've completed every single other aspect of the game, even the quests which don't show up in your journal like the easter egg concerning Dive Rock and a character from Bloodmoon, so this is making me crazy :lol:

You have to use Mora's specific soul gem and spell that he gives you at the shrine...it's known to be horrendously buggy but I was hoping I'd manage to not get caught by it.

I would only my only previous save is back at level 2 (I'm now 34) and I haven't even started the Daedric Shrine quests in my old save - you need to complete all 14 of the known shrines before you can begin Mora's quest. Even then there is no way of finding the shrine unless you stumble upon it by accident and when you get there no one tells you what you have to do in order to get the Daedric lord's attention. It's the only Daedric quest that remains completely hidden unless you either find it on your own or cheat by checking for it online (which for once in my life I didn't do!)

Took me FOREVER to complete all the other shrines - especially the one where you have to fight all ten races in a tournament - and I don't really want to go through them all again, but I suppose if that's the only way forward then I'll have to...

I made sure i backed my saves up afterwards to prevent any of this and saved on multiple files. However the final straw came when one patch removed all the detail from the trees and turned the grass into multicoloured compass designs and i couldnt reverse it.

Usually I do extra saves but because I'm a complete retard I saved over one of them and I'm proper annoyed with myself. I've done that before with a previous character of mine and I was so mad...

It's my own stupid fault but I didn't honestly think there would be a problem because I've never really had issues with Oblivion before. Most of the bugs seem to be on the PC version and apart from random Oblivion gates spawning and killing important NPC's, I haven't had many problems with the game.

In fact, the only real problems I've had up until this one are things in the inventory staying as quest items even after the specific quest has finished - like certain keys and objects. They don't weigh anything but I hate having useless items sitting in my inventory. I'm just weird :lol:

I also have found the shrine but I did not do the quest I had to delete my file after my game jumped from them just sitting there on the bench to attacking me and the would not accept my surrender the only way I can think of is deleting the file but if you decide to delete your file if you have a map of cyradil circle the area on the map so that you can find it again im sorry I could not be of any more help marking thing on the map helps later in other files to find the things that I need

I make a habit of killing all followers just to be on the safe side as that has happened to me before...I'll just have to use my level 2 character I guess and I've got a rough idea of where the shrine is so I'll do some minor stuff in order to level up enough to be able to complete all the other quests first and then head for Mora.

If it bugs out again I'll just have a tantrum and forget it :lol:

Why not just take it as a warning and make sure you have saved on different slots just incase?

Give me time and I'll find a way though it. I'm pretty good with finding slips through glitches when possible. So far, I figured out how to deal with crasher glitch in Clavicus Vile's quest, so I'll look into Mora's.

That would be nothing short of awesome if you could - as far as I am aware it happens when you cast the spell within 120 seconds of the previous casting, but I actually did that in the Skooma Den and got three souls before it started getting huffy with me...so perhaps there was another trigger?

I hate to ask and feel stupid, but what glitch did you run across. I haven't performed the quest yet, and not even anywhere close, but I also want to keep an eye out for study.

Why not just take it as a warning and make sure you have saved on different slots just incase?

Wait, did it make your saves messed up so now you got a file from when your at lv 2 or you just nerved saved?

An easier thing to do would start a semi modding career of OBLIVION get construction set change the script for the quest so you only need to kill the races at Mora's shrine kick their arsefaces...good id good quest complete get rid of that awesome book's that he gives you ability to not be taken out of inventory...Do the dupe glitch wit' 'te bow 'un arrow and get like 100 copies max out all of your lvl up skills...and you didn't even technically cheat...virtually...

Ignore my last question, I think I might know your issue. Is it that you can no longer cast the spell, or is it that the spell carries no effect?

Normally I'm a huge fan of cheating because it makes me happy - I don't use the arrow glitch anymore because it's a pain so I use the scroll one instead but keep it to less than 30 to stop lag...seeing as I already have well over 300,000 gold I don't need the glitch anymore except to increase my mercantile skill...

Anywho, I have the game for the XBOX 360 and can't mod it like you can on the PC. I also wouldn't want to as I am useless at that kind of thing anyway and would probably screw the game into, excuse the phrase, Oblivion.

I can cast the spell but it does nothing - occasionally it will tell me that it's not a valid target/soul for Mora's soul gem but that's all. The UESP wiki has a couple of workarounds but they haven't worked for me and the only fixed issues are with the PC version either by changing the code or with a patch.

I got four souls before it stopped working...
