Supersticious?

Earlier today my backyard door was open but the screen door was closed; allowing me to hear outside things (it was really to let in some air). Anyway I was watching tv and I kept hearing this noise outside so when I went to check there was a crow sitting on my back porch staring blankely at me whilst chirping. I am very supersticious and a crow on your property means someone you know will die. I have 4 pets and I payed close attention to them throughout the day. When my mom got home from work she was crying and informed me that my grandmother was in the hospital. Do you think this is just a coincidence? Any reasuring comments for me? :(

Re: Supersticious?

I am not superstitious at all, but things like that are really mind boggling and, I can't think of a gentle word for it... Interesting? I hope your grandmother will be okay.

Re: Supersticious?

Thank you. It's weird there are some things I'm supersticous about and other supersticions I find stupid.

Re: Supersticious?

I like crows. Its one of the only birds i would never harm. But that is mind boggling. I have heard of other similar stories about crows "Informing" you that something bad is going to happend. http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20090510202117AAqL1hP i just thought you would like to hear another story lol
Anyways, im sure it was just one of those things. Weird stuff that happends. I do hope your grandmother is going to be ok.
Whenever im sad or worried about something i try to watch funny things on youtube, I thought i would share it with you :)

Re: Supersticious?

I'm one of those people who bases everything on logic, which results in my lack of religious affiliation and skepticism of superstition. However, I do often find myself being concerned about superstitious things for no reason at all, so I purposefully do things that supposedly cause bad things to happen, which they never do.

Re: Supersticious?

I wouldn't say I'm superstitious, but stuff like that is mindbottling (when all your thoughts get trapped like in a little bottle.) and when I used to live in America, I was sure my house was haunted. Every time I would walk upstairs, there would be a black figure in my peripherals quickly running up the stairs. The faster I ran, the faster he ran, too. Spooky stuff.

Re: Supersticious?

Try not to watch Paranormal Activity. Although it's pretty funny.

But I don't know what to tell you, I really doubt it means anything, it's just one of those things where you're like "Black Crow! Someone is going to die! It's happened before!" but in reality, there's probably been millions who see black crows like that and nothing happens. It's just coincidence. I hope your grandmother gets better, Evan.

That's exactly what the crow was doing to me. Just staring blankely and "cawing". Weird.

Lol the video didn't work but I saw the title and that made me lawl. Thanks.

Re: Supersticious?

The same thing happened to me when I was working yesterday, I was pushing carts outside and a crow starts flying close to me. As in, the crow was within 6-7 feet which I'm not used to. Then, a little later, it just plops itself in front of me and stares...I was a little baffled...I think it cawed once...or not at all, and it was a muggy/cloudy day. I haven't heard anything bad about anyone yet, and I wasn't thinking about that superstition seeing as I'm not the most superstitious type (other than "knock on wood") so this being a bad sign did not cross my mind, I just thought of it as kind of sweet seeing as I don't get many animals close to me, not that I look for them. There were finches, or whatever they were, around me for the rest of the day though, flying in and out of the carts (they were small and brown). That is very peculiar. By the way, how old is your grandmother and how grim is her situation? Does she have any ailments or complications?

I'd call it a coincidence, some people look for almost any kind of explanation to understand certain things as if this has to be it and there's no other way. Like someone coming to the conclusion that the reason they're having so much bad luck today is because they accidentally walked under a ladder a few days prior. Things do not always happen for a reason.

As far as I know, the superstition behind crows is that they bring a warning of death rather than confirmation that someone you know will die, because of something you (or your mother) did unless you change your ways for the better.

Keep in mind, superstition is (by definition) an irrational way of thinking without logic. It's summer right now, and crows are usually territorial around this time of the year. You probably startled the bird resulting in him cawing at you. I get dozens of cawing crows in my backyard every year from time to time, and nothing bad has ever come of it. So try to relax.

Hopefully your grandmother will be okay, Evan.

Re: Supersticious?

Incredibly weird coincidental stuff like that happens to me, too, it'll be fine. Hope your Grandmother gets better :)

Re: Supersticious?

I don't like birds - except robins (because of Christmas) and birds of prey because they are awesome. And maybe penguins. But your regular birds, especially pigeons, I detest. To be perfectly honest, I wouldn't take a crow shooting its mouth off to be a harbinger of doom. I'd personally chuck a rock at it.

Re: Supersticious?

^haha. I don't like regular birds very much either. I love penguins, eagles, maybe hawks, PARROTS, budgies and other colorful ones. :)

Re: Supersticious?

Crows are awesome. Magpies are arseholes, and a crow would beat a Magpie in a fight.
