talk damn you talk!and a name would be great

yeah...anyone notice in previous fable games the character NEVER talks?and no name?nonononono i dont want your "oh what about the title in the town cri" BLA!no!i want a name of some sort so i can like...you know...feel like im the guy or girl i play as at least let us choose our own name...not just the damn dogs

so anyone want the character to TALK!?

anyone want to make there characters own name!?

Re: talk damn you talk!and a name would be great

On the subject of talking-- no. Maybe it's good and maybe it's bad, but since the Fable 1 hero didn't talk, and the Fable 2 hero didn't talk, it's become something of a trademark of the series. Fable with a talking hero would just seem un-Fable-y. I'd rather they stick with their own distinctive style of the silent protagonist than try to go the Mass Effect route.

A talking hero is cool, if done right-- but even if Lionhead did it right, I don't think it'd FEEL right. Y'know?

We already have a thread that got into the name-vs-title debate, and within the last week. Here. No need to make a new one about the same thing-- you can use the search function before you post to make sure you aren't repeating. Search is up top at the toolbar, between "Links" and "Social Groups."

If fable 3 is the last of the series that would be acceptable and i think a good way to go about the game.

Re: talk damn you talk!and a name would be great

I think voices can give somone a certain personallity, due to the tone and general sound of the voice so if you could costomise it mabey but other wise it would make your guy have a personality you might not want.

and with the names unless you have a list (then people with rare names would miss out) people of albion would end up pronouncing your name wrong, which is why titles are good cause, they have a set list.

Re: talk damn you talk!and a name would be great

Customizing voices would be prohibitively expensive. If they did make the hero speak, you'd end up with one voice for men and one for women, plus duplicates for as a kid and adult and any other ages.

And I have no problem with a speaking hero-- I LOVED Mass Effect 2 (as well as one) and the way they dealt with Shepard's speech. But I don't think that or anything else like it would work for F3. It'd just deviate too much from the established Fable style.

I think it's unlikely they'll have the restraint neccesary to stop at three games, and even if they did... how would that make having a voiced hero any more or less acceptable?

Re: talk damn you talk!and a name would be great

The fact that the protagonist is both silent and nameless only adds to the "identify with" factor.

I mean, compare that factor with Marcus Fenix in Gears of War and the Hero....

Re: talk damn you talk!and a name would be great

I think they should stick with the Zelda-dumb-protagonist thing (silent, not stupid XD) since they did so in the first two games.

The no-name thing I actually kind of love. I love it when people around me get all happy or terrified, shouting my "name" (Lionheart, Dog Lover, Chicken Chaser). With a chosen name (like "Rukishou" or "Arseface") they won't be able to do that. That's no fun! D:

Re: talk damn you talk!and a name would be great

Maybe have some preset sayings.
Like come with me to my Castle.
Instead of a full talking heroes.
The hero in Fable 2 look a bit silly with some of the emotions as If he was 'high' when telling people to follow him :P
Kinda sprititual 'ish:ninja:

Re: talk damn you talk!and a name would be great

He is silent because the developers want you to better identify yourself as the MC. If the MC went off and said random **** you would feel distanced from your character and not in control of its personality. Basically you're meant to imagine this silent protagonist as yourself and games like this capture that perfectly.

It would be absolute rubbish if he suddenly got a personality and he proclaimed he wants to go pick some flowers ! I'd be more than inclined to have him jump of a cliff than take him seriously if he came out with that crap :P

Re: talk damn you talk!and a name would be great

Well the fable 1 character did speak but only phrases such as thanks and ****.

Well, Arseface WAS a name in F1 and possibly F2. But aside from that, I agreee.

Re: talk damn you talk!and a name would be great

As some have said here, adding a name and a voice would give you more of a preset identity, which is exactly what Molyneux is trying to move away from.

^ Exactly
Link fits in to that too

PM said they are planning a Fable 4 and 5 as well. He said it when Fable 2 came out.

Anyway, Fable 3's hero has a name: Logan

Yes, they're planning Fable 4 & 5, but they haven't been confirmed.

Logan is the name of the evil tyrant that you overthrow half way through the game.

Re: talk damn you talk!and a name would be great

Personally, I liked the concept of titles in Fable 2, but most of the titles actually sounded pretty lame when spoken aloud... If they just added some cooler-sounding titles, I'd be perfectly happy with the system already in place.

agreed. sort of like the halo series where they don't show the chiefs face. it makes you curious

Re: talk damn you talk!and a name would be great

In Fable I and TLC you could get a name, via the Hero Title Vendor, right outside the Guild of Heroes. That was like your Hero name, and I thought that only you and probably the Guildmaster would know your real name. People screaming "OH GOD! IT'S REAPER!!" and "Woohoo! Liberator" Wouldn't be quite the same if people cried:

"Dear God, no...it's Steven..."
