Please, the NY Giants will destroy everyone once again, as is tradition.

I'd love to root for my home team, but the Cleveland Browns are crappier than a turd.

Wait.

They're actually called... Cleveland Browns? Holy d*ck on a stick.

I'm guessing they came before the character, of course.

Dude. The 'Skins beat the Giants last year. That is, like, the benchmark for suckiness.

Not to slander my own team...

Wait.

Yeah. I think they started out as the St. Louis Browns. My baseball team was their counterpart before they moved to Baltimore and became the Orioles. Waaaay the hell back.

EDIT: Wait. Holy ****. I just realized that the Cleveland Browns football team got shut down, moved to Baltimore, and renamed the Ravens. (Then this Cleveland Browns team got revived with the same name and "history.") I only JUST NOW realized that both of Baltimore's major sports teams were once called the Browns.

EDIT2: The Cleveland Browns did not start in St. Louis? Apparently? So we had two completely unconnected teams called the Browns. Or, rather, more than that. There were two teams of St. Louis Browns. And a baseball Cleveland Browns. And holy **** that name was ridiculously popular.

RAVENS GUNNA f*** YOU UP.*

(I'm a 'Skins fan, yeah, but as a Marylander I know where I fall on the Ravens-Steelers spectrum.)

*Specifically, we're sending Ray Lewis after your attempted-rapist QB.

No. First ball sport was probably the mesoamerican ball game. :P

Aussies call it gridiron, and call their own version of football, football. I think. Or something like that. Dammit, I can never remember, ask Arse.

And no. Association Football, the one you all call football and we call soccer because we like ripping off defunct British slang; and the assorted varieties of rugby football, were codified at roughly the same time in the UK. American Football and Canadian Football (which are damn near identical) were codified slightly later in North America and evolved from there. I think our versions are supposed to have split off from rugby, which makes sense considering how much time the ball spends in the hand.

[cue balls-in-hand joke]

AFL is the only real football.

kthxbye
