Re: thoughts on new combat system

I think, to build on what you were saying Evan, is that it would be fun if PM made it so that, say if you're characters evil, he would have more underhand attacks in his arsenal to gain an unfair advantage. If your characters good, then his fighting style would be more respectable. Anyone else think that that would be fun?

I think it would make the game more intristing around costoming youre character.

Re: thoughts on new combat system

It certainly would fall into the whole Fable philosophy of "it's not a character -- it's you! hurrr"

Re: thoughts on new combat system

This thread doesn't need to die....yet.

What he means by Soul Caliber etc. is that the fighting is to become more fluid, less rpg-ey and more action. Lol, this is to put the player in a more epic state of gameplay, but tbh I thought Fable TLC was much more epic that Fable 2. -_-

But I like now how you can charge up attacks infinately, like flourishes and zooming in in Fable 2 but infinately so they can have ultimate power lol.

That would be interesting. It's like in real life when you win a fight by fighting dirty you don't get as much respect as if you were to win a fight while fighting clean. Or if you lose fighting dirty, you're more pathetic than if you were to lose fighting clean.

You are wrong, you need to read and watch every last interview before you have an opinion. He said he want the fluidity of those games so that you could pull out your gun while still fighting with and sword at the same time.

So like if there is a guy in front of you and one in back, you can shoot one while stabbing another.

It has nothing to do with camera angles....

hope your right

Re: thoughts on new combat system

I to have read many interviews and watched videos and from what i can glean from the info no one has reason to worry. If you look at fighting games and the fluidity of them then we can all see this. You swap from punch to kick and other moves with the presses of only a limited number of buttons. It's a system that works very well and is the inspiration for the new system that PM is talking about. This system as i see it allows you to for example draw your sword and swipe at someone in front of you to then with no delay shoot over your shoulder at someone running up behind you. It will help to give you the illusion of spontaneity that would happen within a real life fight. in other words the system will in my view shape up to allow players to almost multitask while fighting, switching between different styles of attack in sequence without the clunky and unnatural "ooh wait there mr. Bandit i have to put my gun away and get my sword out for a few seconds...feel free to continue hitting me i cant do anything for the mo." xD Sorry if i have repeated whats been said above and as usual correct me if im wrong (even though i never am xD but i enjoy fighting my corner =P)

Re: thoughts on new combat system

I agree with evan, fable as it stands is pretty close to a hack'n slash, I want a little move individualism to it besides sword/gun/magic. Personally the way I interpret the change is once you lock on to someone, the control scheme changes, not so much the camera, so when you lock on every button does something combat related minus the lock on button itself. We'll see though, I doubt it will be identical to a fighter game, would be a hassle when fighting groups.

Re: thoughts on new combat system

i just don't want a GOW type camera angle. or as low as Skate (yes i'm bringing up skate).

Re: thoughts on new combat system

Warriors Orochi has great fighting system in my opinion... I really like that game a lot... except the fact that you always have to choose the team of 3, but ok... this is not Warriors Orochi forum... this is Fable forum... anyway...
I don't know what's with this Fable thing of 'when your evil you have to act and look evil just like it says in 'evil rule book' and when your good you have to act and look good just like it says in 'good rule book'...
I mean... what if someone is an honorable evil guy...
Well that would be my character more or less...
I hate using dirty hits during games (and real fights), but I ain't goody-two-shoes (only in games... more or less :p)...
Maybe they could make some fighting school that will allow you to change your fighting style for a sum of gold or something...

Re: thoughts on new combat system

Never thought of Fable as an RPG anyway.

Doesn't matter what he calls it, still gonna get it

Re: thoughts on new combat system

can i just say if you read the OXM interview i think its on their website and they have actually TRIED the combat not just been given a description they described it as more akin to bayonetta or devil may cry and in what they saw you could "use a large hammer to chuck your enemys in the air and then keep them there using your rifle to juggle them with bullets" and also the camera angle thing would be stupid fighting games generally appeal to very few people mainly because you can replicate them if you drop the controllers down my staircase and the camera angles make it hard to execute the beautiful combat showcased in games like god of war and devil may cry so yeah try and find out more facts before you make guesses in future
