However, if he did change it so that it didn't happen, he wouldn't KNOW about WW II in the future from which he traveled back in time - and he wouldn't have gone back in time to change it.
As such, if something has happened in the past you can't change it.
I don't know how much more clear I could be. If you travel back in time to change something, and successfully change it, you wouldn't have any reason to travel back in time and change it.
