Tip on Owning the Oakvale Tavern Without Being Fined

If you're working on a character for one reason or another you never want to be fined, but still want to own all of Oakvale, it can be done. After having killed everyone else in the town, there's still the pesky gamesmaster in the tavern. All you have to do is shoot an arrow at or use magic on one of the barrels behind the counter. The gamesmaster will get up to report you to the guards. Block the door, then allow a small amount of space for him to run past you. Use your method of choice and kill him after he leaves the building. A guard may end up seeing you kill him anyway so you'll want to save before attempting just in case.

You could just kill him, then run out of town as fast as possible... Then wait until the fine is forgotten.

Why even bother with running?

Just use the Stop Time power, and you have all the time you need to use your Guild Seal to get out of town.

As for not getting fined, if you draw your weapon in Oakvale, it's likely to get noticed, and you'd be fined. I've found one of the best ways to deal with killing the NPCs in Oakvale is this:

Simply wait until night time (when everyone goes home, to bed) and corner the person, or people, you want to kill inside of a building (usually the one they own, since it's night). Use your Stop Time power, and attack away. Because you're inside a building, it's unlikely any guards will see you, and with your Stop Time power active, it's also unlikely anyone will be fast enough to escape your swift death-stroke. If you do manage to incite a riot, just Stop Time and use your Guild Seal to get out of dodge.

The point was to never get fined in the first place.

Guess I'm odd. I like to pretend each of my characters has unique personality traits and the like that go along (or clash) with his class and alignment. One of my characters I wanted to own all of Oakvale, Knothole Glade, and so on without anyone ever noticing foul play.

It's very possible and also easy to draw your weapons (and use them to kill) in Oakvale without guards ever noticing. The only exception I've noticed is an alarm seems to go off in Oakvale whenever you kill someone inside a shop.

Like I said before, this was all just to avoid ever being fined. I'm sure there's plenty of alternate methods, I was just sharing my success.

Nice idea, eventhough you can just kill them all - what's the point of being an assassin if you get noticed? :ninja:;)

*Ninja...es away*

i find it is best to go in guns blazing killing everything but make sure you have a whole load of monney. Then buy the stuff. Then once you have bought everything you can, you leave, wait and then come back to either, do something with you properties or if you didn't get them all, kill everyone and do it again.

You can lure near everyone out with the "Follow" command, then use the area of effect from a charged fireball spell to kill the gamemaster, as the game won't recognize that it was you who killed him.

Anternative for killing the gamemaster yourself:
After having leading everyone out of town, if you get a few bandits to follow you from Twinblade's camp (which might be difficult if you're good, so wear your most evil/scary outfit) you could then walk back to Oakvale (villagers won't respawn for three in game days), head into the tavern and use the "Wait" command on the bandits. Once free they'll attack any villager guard they come across and will be more than enough to merc one guy.

That last bit is just super fun to do, if you'd like you could get the bandits first and make sure they kill the gamemaster, then lead whoever is left out of town. Fireball is much quicker though.

Other than that there's no way to remain pure good and own every property in game.
