To Buy Or Not to Buy?

I think i can presume that we are all pretty excited for the release of Fable 2.

I myself am determined to purchase an Xbox 360 so i can play Fable 2. What i'm wondering is, is it worth buying a 360 now? I have heard that they can be rather unstable, and that two new versions which run better, and support HDTV are in production and will be released sometime around early 2009. But i'm not too sure if they are going to be that much better than the models that are in store now.

Do you think i should buy a 360 now and be able to play fable 2 the day it comes out. Or should i wait for the new model 360's?

Re: To Buy Or Not to Buy?

The Elite supports HDMI already if thats what you were referring to with the HDTV comment though newer model 360s do too, as all 360s support HDTV's with a component cable. Most the 360s in production now are fairly stable and although the red rings of death still happen it isnt as common as it once was. There are many many great titles already out to enjoy on the 360 before Fable 2 is upon us.

I agree, I get wonderful HD, with mine. Just get the extended warranty, to be on the safe side.:)

Re: To Buy Or Not to Buy?

It's definitely worth it to get a 360 now. There are lots of games to keep you occupied until the release of Fable 2 and between that and Live, you should get a lot of use out of your system. :)

the Xbox 360 has a less of a chance to breakdown compared to the PS3 because my mate inserted a Call of Duty 4 disc and his PS3 broke after it loaded (bad luck) and I have had my Xbox 360 for 2 years.

But ask yourself do you just want the Xbox just to play Fable 2 or to play
other games because I only had 1 reason of buying a 360 and that was just to play Halo 3 but none the less it is well worth £200

Re: To Buy Or Not to Buy?

There definitely won't be any new Xbox 360 console packages released anytime soon. Regarding your question about unstable Xbox 360s: Yes! The first and second generation Xbox 360s (one had the codename: Zephyr, and I don't remember the other one) were basically pretty prone to the Red Ring of Death - which sucks, I can tell you! There's reports of Xbox fail rates ranging from 30% of all units breaking down, to anywhere up to 60-80% - obviously no figures have or will ever be released by Microsoft, though.

Nowadays, the only Xbox 360 models you'll find in stores are the new Falcon models which are much, much more reliable. I have one and it uses a heck of a lot less power, and is almost silent when running. It also includes that sexy new HDMI port which was exclusive to all Xbox 360 Elites at first.

I don't imagine the price for Xbox 360 bundles will come down anytime soon, either. In the UK, we recently had a price slash on all Xbox 360 models; the Core, Premium and Elite.

I'd recommend getting one now. Pick up a copy of Call of Duty 4 and an Xbox Live Gold subscription to keep you entertained until Fable 2 is released, too! ^_^

Re: To Buy Or Not to Buy?

The most important thing is to never ever put something like a skirt or a bra ontop of the 360, 'cause that really knocks off it's ventilation, trust me.

....and not to keep it in too small of an area, which it will heat up by being turned on and won't feel all that good when it has built up enough.

Re: To Buy Or Not to Buy?

Buy an xbox 360 elite and then get Fable 2, GH3, GTA IV and several other awesome games! :w00t:

Re: To Buy Or Not to Buy?

Ironically after saying that the red rings of death werent as common as it once was i get it... well thats karma for you.

My console is over 2 years old though and has served me well, just got to get my head around this posting nonsense now though it seems quite straight forward.

Re: To Buy Or Not to Buy?

The RRoD problem isn't as common with the new consoles.

Microsoft changed the manufactorer, that is not a secret, and the number of RRoD's went down a bit. As a tip, keep your '360 standing as it allows more ventilation.

As i said my console has lasted over 2 years and is well ventilated (as well as it can be in here though i need to move it from radiator) and standing. Ive had the Universal multiple language error before but my console pulled through. Its served me well and im not mad about it getting the 3 red rings because it outlasted both my Playstation and Playstation 2 (as i had to have 2 of those too). Technology breaks down, just happens and have to except it. Could have came at a better time though because i still havent figured out my GFX card problem with PC and got to buy a car very soon.

Re: To Buy Or Not to Buy?

Cool thanks guys, as soon as i have enough moolah i think i will buy a 360 ad those games...either that or a digital SLR hehe.

Um excuse my ignorance but what are the red rings of death. Is it like a warning system or something.

Type it into google and you will see lots about it.

Heres a picture of mine for you:

My 360 looks like a shadow of its former self without the custom faceplate and hard drive on it. :'(

Re: To Buy Or Not to Buy?

So, RRoD is really the death of 360?

Re: To Buy Or Not to Buy?

No, not really. If you kept all the documentation and stuff, there is a rather neat warranty issued by Micro$oft.

Re: To Buy Or Not to Buy?

I beleive there is DIY book dedicated to the rings Of Death for the 360 it gives tips on how to fix it and how to prevent it but to be on the safe side just send it of to Microsoft if the rings appear but when I played games it made a loud noise and when I went to the dash Board.

My 360 still has smooth gameplay after 2 years the games dont freeze they load up quick because I got some sort of update while playing Lost Oddyssy and everything on my Dash Board has changed and it takes less than 30 seconds to loadup all 612 songs on my 360 heray for Lost Oddyssy it use to take more than a minute to load 100 songs and when I use to play games while listening to music only 100 songs were available now all of them work I beleive that lost oddyssy prevented me from getting the rings of death and it is not as noisy anymore

Re: To Buy Or Not to Buy?

Mine freezes every time I have an update installed...I think it's just stubborn that way...

Mine doesn't. Maybe you should call microsoft and tell them, before your warranty runs out. I just upgraded, yesterday and that didn't happen.
