i've beat the game and want to start a new character. can i do that without overwriting the other one?

one more question, can i trade items from my new character to my old one in co-op mode? (not the xbox live co-op)

yes by trading it to a trustworthy friend then go into your new character meet somwhere in Albion and trade back.
