Virus scanner

Does anyone know of a good virus scanner I can use to help me with limewire im kinda paranoid about viruses since they crashed my computer last time.

Re: Virus scanner

Grisoft Anti Virus Guard (AVG) - they have a free version, too, which is cool.

Re: Virus scanner

Just don't use Limewire. Trust me. It's a big pile of outdated and unsafe piece of junk. 99% of everything you download contains some sort of junk and no virus scanner in the world will help you against that. The way it works anyone can name a virus file "hotsteamingactionxxx" and upload it there. In fact, there are people who have nothing better to do than take delight in spreading such junk to other people.

Take the hint that it did crash your computer once and get rid of it.

Totally right, i used limewire but as tsyu said half the stuff you download isnt what you wanted in the first place. i just got fed up with getting files i wasnt sure about . I'm using itunes now. I mean whats 79p?

Re: Virus scanner

I use limewire and I never get any viruses. I only grab things that look legit though, and only use it for certain files types.

Also, this is a touchy subject as discussing p2p is against the rules... I'm assuming we're ok with it since both PE and Tsuyu aren't waving any flags, but just don't get to detailed.

Re: Virus scanner

Yeah fair enough. I interpreted that particular rule as a sort of blanket no discussion allowed, but you're the boss

Re: Virus scanner

my antivirus is avast. is quite good ^_^.

u probly better off with a less well known p2p,as less ppl mean less losers with nothing better to do than try and break rndom strangers computers...

Re: Virus scanner

It's very coincedental you made this thread because tonight I just downloaded Spybot, and it works fast and efficient.

Ive used Limewire with no problems for years and i use AVG Free and its always worked well too.

Yeah, same here, AVG is very good (plus, it`s free).
P2P isn`t illegal, but downloading copyrighted stuff is.
But if you want to put some money in it, I guess NOD32 is (as far as I know) one of the best anti-virus programs.

Re: Virus scanner

id say norton, but even with it, my moms comp still died,...*sob* may it rest in peace...

Re: Virus scanner

AVG is one of the lowest rated Antivirus programs on the market. NOD32 from ESET is excellent. Kasperski is currently the best on the market. It offers a complete solution. If you're not even a little tech savy I might stay away from Kasperski though because it can be over protective if you don't know how to configure it but it's easy to do.
Anti-Virus Software Review 2008

One of my GS buddies has a scanner (free I think) that works with limewire I'll ask him about it at work tonight.

Re: Virus scanner

i would definitely agree, plus it has a pretty interface, kinda like a media player.
