Re: warhammer
The Necrons are an ancient race. They were mortal beings of flesh and blood once, known as the Necrontyr. Despite their wast technological discoveries they were unable to obtain immortality. They become obsessed with it, and when they came into contact with a very powerful race known as The C'Tan, the Star Gods who offered them immortality through transferring their consciousness into bodies made out of the same material as the C'Tan themselves, a sort of "living metal".
They were tricked, because the transfer turned them into slaves of the Star Gods. They share the C'Tans hatred for all forms of life. The Necrons sleep deep underground in their worlds, known as Tomb Worlds, waiting from orders from their Gods and Masters.
They share a lot in common with the stereotypical undead. They are almost impossible to kill, because when their metal bodies are destroyed their conciousness is siphoned back into their "base" called a Monolith and prepared into a new one. Their bodies also regenerate, so they never run out of material to rebuild themselves with. You have to destroy the Monolith in order to stop them.
They aren't as aggresive as the other races - for now they are content with being in stasis on their Tomb Worlds until their Masters call. However, if someone lands and disturbs them they will arise and not stop until they have eradicated all forms of life. A task they perform very well, because Necron weaponry is amongst, if not the, most powerful in existence.
