BEFORE I BEGIN, A CONFESSION:
I have lead many of you to believe that I am a college student. That is not the case and I apologize for the deceit. I was embaressed that nothing has gone on in my life for several years so I chose a lie that would make me feel more socially acceptable (I'MSUCHATOOL).
AND NOW THE ACTUAL RANT:
I am actually trying to start school this fall. That was the plan anyway, it's still a bit up in the air.
You see (I have no knowledge of other areas, so this might be true elsewhere) Texas requires you take the THEA test to get in to college. It stands for Texas Higher Education Assessment. It's designed to test your knowledge in various subjects to help schools point out what classes you will need to take.
I first learned of this test when I was first applying for schools. I asked one of the counselors what I would need to do to actually go to school and she said many things, one of them being that THEA is required. This was mid June(ish). I know, I went about all of this very late because I wasn't even sure I would have the means to actually attend until around that time.
Anyway, here is one of the problems with THEA: it's only held six times a year.
So, upon applying to the test, I learned that the only upcoming time I can take the test is on July 23rd. Like a fool, I registered (upon paying for the study guide and late fees for taking the test in the summer ended up costing about $65 USD) without actually researching the test or any alternatives.
So, fast forward to this past Tuesday. I went to the campus to the school I was accepted too and talk to different counselor (though they both work for the same school) to gather a bit more information about various things, and I mention my upcoming THEA test.
Her response?: "Well, you know, test results take about four to six weeks to come in."
The problem: classes start August 29th. If I'm not registered for classes by that time I can't go to school.
She then proceeds to tell me about another test that they hold on campus called the ASSET test which IS JUST AS GOOD AS THEA AND IS HELD SEVERAL TIMES A WEEK DURING THE SUMMER AND REGISTRATION IS ONLY $29 AND STUDY MATERIAL IS FREE.
Why the hell didn't the FIRST COUNSELOR I TALKED TO TELL ME THIS?
So now, out of desperation, I'm taking a test this Friday in the hopes that I MIGHT get my test results back quick enough to go back to school this fall while also taking an almost duplicate test on the 23rd on the other side of the fu*king city (which, in Houston, is saying something).
TL;DR: School staff fail at communication leaving Tyloric frustrated and stressed to the max, as well as broke.
I know that in grand scheme of things these are small issues but it still ****es me off.
For those interested my (planned) major will be English Focusing in Creative Writing.
