Thank you for that piece of info, but that still doesn't help with the problem at hand. :'(

Is it really as bleak as it seems. Buying a game that you really want to play and then having to wait until a patch is formed. Why are the computer gods so mean? :realmad:

I have heard of many issues with Vista, from graphical problems to major download dilemmas, but I don't understand what went wrong when they made it. Bill Gates has got it in for the Fable series I should think...

Most the other issues were GFX and Sound card issues and not windows issues (disappearing text and missing sound).

Re: What is with Vista?

The Drakanator is here, have no fear!

But honestly, I think this is like trying to download Windows Media Player onto a MAC...

Sorry I couldn't help, I think it's futile.

Actually, ask Todd! He has Vista I think.

Re: What is with Vista?

Re: What is with Vista?

Windows Vista is just weird sometimes, do you have a new Vista? cause i heard that theres bugs to where it doesnt want to install/run programs

Re: What is with Vista?

Well, for the past 2 days of having my computer ive been able to install and play SWBF2, Warcraft 3, Dawn of War, Steam With a few games on there and an assortment of other games, the only one that wont work is fable. and that is installed, it starts up and everything is good until it actually lets you play then the screen goes black after the first cutscene.

:ninja:

Re: What is with Vista?

I stumbled upon the answer to your issue. I was having the same blank screen and only audio issue. And it was simply adjusting the video setting in the game to a resolution that was 16 bit. i also turned down all the sliders as i was testing just to see. I'm playing with turning them up and down and seeing what effects they may have. I hope this helps. Oh and i do have everything checked in the "compatibility" tab for the fable exe except run at 600x480. i haven't turned them back off to see if it goes back blank after intro again.

Re: What is with Vista?

Vista takes up alot of memory and crap. It also sucks with it's fancy ways to entertain business people who are bored to death. Thing such as 3d chess games, linked screens, gadgets, etc. I think Halo 2 for PC didn't get much attention because it was only for vista and as you know, businessmen don't play games, so, yeh, shut down the company, declare Halo 3 cancelled and go home (and eat snickers ^^).

Re: What is with Vista?

Before you try any of this I recommend creating a restore point

Open System Restore by clicking the Start button clicking All Programs, clicking Accessories, clicking System Tools, and then clicking System Restore.* If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

Re: What is with Vista?

Okay, running off Vista, bought TLC yesterday. Ran windows update and got a vista and a dell update. Still didnt run as soon as the first video is shown. Black screen from the father speaking on. No progress.
Ran in compatibility mode for xp service pack 2. Checked all boxes but run in 640x480. Turned all the sliders down and resolution to 800x600x16. The game worked... until the scene that Maze finds you after your father is killed. Blackness again. I tried skipping screnes all the way until Whisper tells you to wake up the first time when your still kids. Still no visual, but I have full control. What next? And will I ever be able to play this game all the way through?

Updated GFX drivers? What are your specs? Have you installed the Vista Update for Fable TLC?

Re: What is with Vista?

I have managed to find a solution that works for me concerning Fable and Vista.
My rig:
CPU: T2500
RAM: 1gb
OS: Vista Home Premium 32bit
GPU: Nvidia GeForce Go 7900 GTX

Fable Video Settings:
Resolution: 1680X1050X16 (16bit color seems to be very important*)
Refresh Rate: 60Hz
Anti-Aliasing: Off
Texture Detail: Fully to the Right
Mesh Detail: Fully to the Right
Shadow Detail: Fully to the Right
Brightness: Just left of Middle
Vertical Sync: On
Effects Detail: OFF - Fully to the Left
Screen Aspect Ratio: Auto

(I assume you have made every possible update to your video drivers and applied all relevant Microsoft patches concerning this issue. I'm not providing any links as this thread already has said patches, etc.)

I do not check anything on the Compatibility tab of the Fable.exe file. I have found that the one thing that results in the black-screen-audio-buzz (BSAB) for me is the Effects Detail option. If this is set above fully left the BSAB starts from the beginning. If I change this setting after successfully getting into the game the game locks.

*Concerning 16bit color I found an interesting thing. If the game is started with 32bit it goes into BSAB. However, if started in 16bit it can be changed to 32bit by odd means. If I select the 32bit setting after a successful load the screen goes black. However, if I Alt+Tab to the desktop and back Fable comes back and I can play in 32bit. (IMO this is hardly worth doing every time I want to play, but...)

I hope this helps someone else out there as I know there have been a good many people trying to find solutions. If anyone else feels like testing these 2 phenomenon and reporting I would be interested in the results. Happy gaming, I hope. :)
