Re: what the hell?

Yes... Technically "naturally occurring glass".

Re: what the hell?

i thought obsidian was a myth...whaddaya know

Re: what the hell?

I was also surprised when I found out.

Re: what the hell?

I neither understand the question nor the answers

=x

Re: what the hell?

Thanks for the information ;D

Now I got it.

Re: what the hell?

I wasn't surprised at all. In fact, I'm surprised you're all surprised.

I guess it's because my favourite character in "Legend of Mana" was Elazul, the Lapis Lazuli Jumi... He used a sword made of Obsidian if I remember correctly. >.<

If I can member correctly, Fable was the game that got me the knowledge of obsidian.

... it seems that I repeated "if I remember correctly", it`s unintentional since I wrote my sentence before I read your last sentence - talk about randomness.

Re: what the hell?

So it's a stone/metal?? I allways thought it was some magical made up thing

Re: what the hell?

It is not a metal.

Re: what the hell?

then why the hell would anyone step back to stone when they got metal??

Re: what the hell?

[spoilers] hi [/spoiler] adfasdfsadfasdfasdfsdfa

Re: what the hell?

Lol... What are you on Dan? (coincidentally my name... maybe it's really me! :ninja:)

Re: what the hell?

I think the whole point of the Obsidian weapons is that they have been tampered with a lot that they have become very powerful but also very delicate (?). Everything is explained in the Weapon Description.

Plus, Obsidian sounds so much cooler than Iron or Steel.

true but....it's still a damn stone...he i suppose glass and ebony weapons and armor didn't make much sense in morrowind either, why would anyone wield armor made of glass or wield a weapon so heavy you could barely lift it from the ground?

Re: what the hell?

I have several pieces of obsidian lying around my apartment, most of them arrowheads. It's actually not a bad choice. It has a moderate hardness (better than iron actually...) and it sharpens well and holds its point well. And yes... it sounds cool :)

Re: what the hell?

The whole point of obsidian is that when mixed with metal in sword making, it makes the sword slick, like rain on a window, you know how it says the obsidian swords feel slimey or slick, its because the sharpest of weapons are made of glass or slick stone. I know it doesn't sound like it should be so, but it is. Look up sacrifical knifes, alot of them are made of glass. Used to cut out hearts.

And as for ebony, I'm assuming that the tusks off a elephant are pretty resiliant, and would make for a good bow, if you could carve one into the right shape.

Re: what the hell?

but sacrificial knifes aren't ment for fighting just stabbing a unconsious or restrained victim. If you take a piece of glass and strike it fowards a stone it breaks, if you "stab" the stone it doesn't break, so the reason I'm saying what the hell is that: I can see that the weapon can hack through flesh and bones, but if it meets some ressistance such as a iron sword it could break? So it's a very very delicate weapon and should be used with precausion? (dunno how to spell it :S)

Re: what the hell?

But if we're talking about Obsidian, that's almost jewel quality, its gonna be literally rock hard, and not to mention, its gonna go through flesh like a hot knife through butter, I'm of native descent, and from what I've seen of my peoples old knives, the shizz is sharp, and thats just sharpend rocks, Obsidian would be like ten times better.

And think of this, a glass sword about three feet long, about 4 inches thick, and aall it takes to make is sand and fire? lol. I would much rather rock that that something I have to sharpen, AND oil (if you know how to take care of a weapon) I mean yeah it'll be heavy, so swing it harder, build some brawn. lol

Either way its a vey cool topic.
