What's the weird food you didn't know was weird?

Today I learned that hush puppies are unknown in the Midwestern US and Scrapple is only a thing in the Mid-Atlantic.

What's the weird food you like that you didn't realize was weird until late in life?
Fairy bread.

I still don't see the problem with it.

Bread? Tick.

Butter? Tick.

Hundreds and thousands all over the top? Tick.

I LOVE fairy bread.

My ma's an aussie so she grew up having it, however they made it with cream cheese.

We made it for Yuna's first birthday party, people weren't very keen.

Cream cheese is a no. Butter or nowt.

And those people are philistines and you should cast them out of your life this instant.

Side note: I hate ketchup so much. Everyone here loves it. Maybe ketchup is different elsewhere (American ketchup contains a lot of sugar), but it's always felt like the condiment that you use to get kids who are picky eaters to actually eat their damn food. I will always maintain that ketchup ruins a good serving of french fries, and ketchup on eggs does severe and permanent damage to my soul.

I have a severe dislike of ketchup too.

I used to like ketchup and now it's too weird tasting for me. BBQ sauce is where it's at.

That and garlic mayo.

Hundreds and thousands of what?

The American version is allllllmost identical except we use cinnamon sugar instead of nasty sprinkles.

Tiny balls of coloured sugar - at least i think that's what they are. Never had the courage to check the label of anything that colourful before.

Probably bits of Covid and raccoon faeces for all I know...

Wow, fairy bread looks not enjoyable at all.
