Quite simple really, what artist is your total favourite, an unquestioning loyalty and adoration of everyone of their songs, what artist/band inspires you? And what was your favourite song, and album by them?

For me it is Phil Lynott the lead singer from Thin Lizzy, & Grand Slam.

My favourite album by him is Solo in Soho. I came across Him from an impulse buy of Thin Lizzy's greatest hits, hearing a total of 3 of their songs I went out and came across the album. How did you come across your favourite artist?

Also keep the 'my music is better than yours' thing to yourself, just share your music idol as it were. :)

3 Names for me..

Ronnie. James. Dio.

Fell in love with the guy when I was a kid after my father would continuously blast his music over the speakers (be it in the house or the car), along with other guys like Thin Lizzy, Rush, Metallica, Led Zeppelin, etc (list goes on and on). The soul and passion he exhumed in every vocal performance was very awe-inspiring for me, and still is to this day, so naturally I was pretty crushed when he died. One particular song I enjoyed for a long time of his was "I Could Have Been a Dreamer" off the Dream Evil album from 1987.

The guy had a fantastic set of vocals, take a listen to some of his 60s material:

Probs Chick Corea for me. Even though he's a Scientologist, he's still a pretty cool guy, a great musician, and an amazing composer.

Marylin Manson.

I'm not too much in love with his music, but off the stage he is a pretty cool guy who doesn't afraid of anything. He got a lot of bad rep from Columbine because of the shooters apparently listening to his music. This is what he said:

Michael Moore: If you were to talk directly to the kids at Columbine or the people in that community, what would you say to them if they were here right now?
Marilyn Manson: I wouldn't say a single word to them. I would listen to what they have to say, and that's what no one did.

Love his guitar work, he's a pretty cool guy and he has the funk. He also has some pretty cool solo songs out there that aren't what you'd expect.

Favourite song: Many, just many.

Favourite album: Have to settle on live at Slane Castle with the RHCP just because it's a really good gig

Came across him after buying a Chili Peppers album ages ago, only really got into him as an individual artist after watching one of his live performances.

Mikael Stanne; vocalist/songwriter from Dark Tranquillity

He's very good, both growling and clean singing, as well as a great songwriter, with surreal and odd, but deep and inspirational lyrics. In person, he's a nice and down to earth guy that hasn't learned to take the fame for granted, but just loves his fans. Although, what you guys probably care more about is the fact that he's rarely seen without beer :P.

Also, I'm not sure what song I like best, but the one that shows his vocal awesomeness very well is Misery's Crown.

Tsuyu already said it, but Marilyn Manson really inspires me in terms of style and personality.

However if I were to choose a true musical hero, it would either be Dave Mustaine, his guitar play is amazing, and even though he is a douche, if I could play a third as well as he can play, I would be ecstatic. Another hero would have to be Craig Owens, formerly of Chiodos, an amazing song writer and lyricist by mainstream standards in my opinion, plus he is hot.

Pretty fond of these three fellas myself:

David Bowie: Great musician, songs are great and he stands out from everyone else in the room (in a good way too.)

You all should know who this guy is. The king himself, Elvis Presley.

Big fan of Johnny Cash too, music always has a deep meaning to it.

My musical hero is, hands down, Green Day's bassist Mike Dirnt.

Now here me out: I am unaware of the level of skill with which he can actually play, but what I see inspiring about him is what he's been through and still turned out famous and successful. Put up for adoption, he was adopted by a couple who later divorced. Then, living with his mother, he had to force her to sign some form or other that would let him continue in school. Then he was living out of the back of a truck for a few years until he rented a room in Billie Joe Armstrong's (the lead singer's) flat.

And, more music wise, scorn you may but most of Green Day's songs do have some deeper meaning to it than just a funky tune and catchy lyrics.

Longview and King for a Day have the deepest meaning ever.

Plus Hobbe, people have gone through much worse, and ended up successfuller.
