Who's your musical hero?

Alright Ed, first of all, we've all seen the facebook posts about you hating on your mum for no reason. Second of all: if what you say is true, then give me some examples.

Well, maybe the fact she enjoys gloating about the fact I got a bad result for my recent maths test, also the fact that she wants me to do something job-wise like banking or basically any sort of high-paying desk job and when I told her I wanted to do something in the acting/comedianing business she said, and I quote "I will not have a son who is a f**king failure as a career" and takes basically any opportunity to take the **** and then wonders why I do it.

So you hate your mum because she wants you to be successful?

No, he's hating on her because he wants to do something that he enjoys doing, and she doesn't care what he wants to do. That is some seriously frustrating s***.

First of all, I suspect Hobbe is exaggerating. Secondly: look at it from her point of view. She still only wants him to be successful.

But I get that there are some issues there that you have to sit down and talk out. Just hating her for it isn't going to fix anything, Ed.

Hobbe, do you think this guy complained when his mom, mum, or mem gave him crap about his life goals? Of course not, look at that crossbow and.... is that a rabit or a chinchilla?
Anyways
MAN UP ABOUT IT

Hobbe no one gives any amount of feces, get back on topic you whining little bitch.

Loads of people have actually had it tough, so stop whining right nao.

But trying to control him is the wrong way to nudge him in the right direction.

I get the feeling that Hobbe has given up trying to talk things out and appeal to her sense of reason, which I totally understand. Sometimes, there's nothing you can do to fix things, and you just have to tough it out until you can move out of the house and tell her to f*ck off because she can't actually do anything to you anymore.

My musical hero (and thus inspiration too), would be Luciano Pavarotti without a single doubt. He's not just a hero because he's near perfect at what he does, but he's also been someone with a great personality, a great philanthropist, and managed to bring Opera to the general pop audience - with a great success, too (1990 FIFA World Cup / World Cup Italia '90).

He's a great inspiration for me; his technical perfection if it comes to his approach to singing, his willpower when he was studying it for 7 years, and that he always seeks to improve himself, no matter how good he has performed - he's one with an attitude who's never satisfied with his own work; unlike the audience!

I'll not place an album here, as all of the songs he performed are good. But there are a few songs that top the tip of the iceberg.

Really worth listening to this one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sr3aBBA3VYc - Nessun Dorma, the infamous aria!

Really worth listening to this one too: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nxfNyssQtK0 - E Lucevan Le Stelle

Very nicely done: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-tLtU57NTWU - Vesti La Giubba

And last but not least: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G8FRLsvfTIs - Pourquoi me Réveiller

Love "E Lucevan Le Stelle". I still can't believe he managed to keep his perfect voice all the way through his old age before his passing. Like I mentioned before, he's the only person I've seen sing a song and bring a tear to my eye from his voice and emotion (not even Ronnie James Dio could do that). He may not be my musical hero, but I highly respect him as a person and his one of a kind skill. Guys like him just don't come around often enough at all.

Although, that other guy on the scene.. Roberto Alagna, now there's a special guy.

Dude Arseface asked me for an example.

Not at all.

As Necro said, I have tried to do this. For example, not 3 hours ago at dinner we were talking about about missed opportunities and stuff (the conversation just lead to it) and she said, out of the blue, with no provocation or anything "The missed opportunity to pass your maths". And then she wondered why I got annoyed. Comprende?

tough it out until you can move out of the house and tell her to f*ck off because she can't actually do anything to you anymore.

THIS IS THE ONLY THING THAT KEEPS ME FROM SUICIDE.

Joke. But seriously.

Cut it out, guys.

You're going way off-topic and it isn't even necessary. If you really want to do this, take it to your profiles or make a new thread, but don't do it in here. First and last warning.

Apologies, kind sir. Did get a bit out of hand.

Jaco Pastorius is another hero of mine. He basically invented virtuosic electric bass playing. Guys like Flea and Victor Wooten wouldn't be anywhere if it weren't for him.

Plus he's not even black.

Alright, I've been thinking about this since this thread was started, and I can't think of anybody that I consider to be a musical hero of mine. Sure, I have some favorite artists that I like to listen to a lot, but I don't consider any of them to be heroes.

Now this is a Hero.

Now that I think about it, my ultimate musical hero is Miles Davis. That guy just did what he wanted, and didn't care that he ****ed off his fans who just wanted to hear him play his old stuff. He is the father of modern jazz, and I don't think anyone will ever come close to him in terms of musical importance any time soon.

He went from this, which was the popular form of jazz when he was starting out:

Decided all those notes were too much, so he invented a whole new form of jazz.

Then he got bored of that, and decided to go in the direction of free jazz and acid rock which was popular in rock circles at the time.

Pretty much all the musicians who played with him went on to do amazing things. Canonball Adderly, John Coltrane, Chick Corea, John McLaughlin, Herbie Hancock, Joe Zawinul, John Scofield, and the like.

A true revolutionary.
