Why do people like Drake?

I mean more like, you always hear about pop, rock, metal, etc on the radio and tv. Why doesn't jazz get the same kind of coverage? When I first started listening to jazz, I was amazed that I'd never heard any of it before.

Unfortunately it's the fact that for some reason - and I really, REALLY, do not understand why - the majority of people apparently prefer meaningless lyrics sung by a voice that needs to be autotuned to sound half decent and instruments that are all noise made a computer wrapped over a nice little tune rather than people who really can sing and have actual talent.

I guess we'll never know why...

... you have rock and metal on your TV and radio?

It is practically extinct up here in the frozen north.

Over here, too. I have to search teh YouTuberz for what I like.

In Merrie Olde Englande we have Kerrang, which is basically a radio station that plays 'Alternative' (as much as I hate the use of that word to describe a genre I feel it's appropriate in this case) stuff like rock, metal, punk and shizzle.

I've gone off rap to be honest, its all I ever used to listen to, I still like Eminem though I can't stand his stupid songs any more, I only like his serious stuff. However I think Hollywood Undead (rap/rock) are probably the only redeemable rappers around at the moment even if they do sing about boats n hoes as well as some serious stuff.

Eminem's "The Eminem Show" is the only album I've ever bought. I listened to it not too long ago (I mean literally, just sat down and listened). Absolutely brilliant. His newer songs have become repetitive to me though

Why current pop artist are actually popular is beyond me. For example, we have the Backstreet Boys from the late 90's to early 00's. Whatever you say about their music, I can actually understand why they were popular. And honestly, they can sing. But the likes of Justin Bieber and whatever autotuned crap you hear from... basically everywhere, is simply horrifying.

I have nothing against rap, some of it is quite good. I'm not a lyrics listener; and I don't get why people are so stuck on lyrics when it comes to rap. Times have changed, punk isn't what i used to be, why should rap. Most of all songs in other genres have crappy lyrics as well, why should rap get all the blame. It's not like there's nothing more to rap than just the lyrics.

Granted, I haven't really looked, but everything rap related I've ever seen or heard has been about boats n' hoes.

I guess it is what sells?

The popular rap* in the charts or the big sellers usually are about boats 'n' hoes and the majority of it's terrible. To unearth good rap, you need to dig deep and find smaller artists that sing or rap about stuff other than bitches and fast cars. Eminem does, but he whines far to much now. He's a bad bad man.

*I feel disgusting to put the likes of Lil Wayne, Drake and 50 Cent (if he's still around) in the same category as people such as Tupac and Biggie.
