i'm not pretending anything. you always seem to have the most outlandish of things to say from my perspective, so that's what i want to refute. i'm not denying anything. i've been nothing if not patient here, you're the one who get defensive and started spouting off insults. you can think i'm an egotistical asswipe, that's fine, i just don't see where you're getting it from.

what does philosophy have to do with it? i quoted thomas edison... the inventor. and i'm pretty sure that by admitting what i emboldened you conceded the fact that people can improve with hard work, so i guess there's that. =]

that's not true at all (disregarding the einstein comment). someone may be the best doctor in the world, but if they were put next to someone with a medical school diploma and several years of training experience i'd choose the latter. maybe that's just where we differ.

the only thing you wrote there that i think would be detested were the flaming and insults. i really don't understand why you choose to do that.

Maybe you don't see it and maybe I'm just imagining it but your posts definitely come off as arrogant. Perhaps "egotistical asswipe" wasn't the best way to describe you but you've worn my patience thin.

No. I told you there are three categories of people. There are those who are born with gifts that appear early or late in life who don't need practice (but may do so anyways) who happen to be naturally great. Then there are those of us who are average or mediocre who, with lots of practice, will eventually reach greatness (though not exactly on par with the ones born gifted). Last but not least, there are those who suck and will always suck no matter what. That's what I was trying to get at before this conversation started flying off its rails.

Philosophy

That should explain the whole "philosophy" bit.

You would choose someone who is of a lesser quality over someone with a piece of paper? A paper given to him/her by others who may be just as mediocre when compared to the best doctor? That... well... lets just hope the other doctor doesn't leave his glasses or wallet inside your stomach.

I've lost my patience as of late. Not just because of you but because of a multitude of things. I admit, I was a bit rash when I said what I said but if you knew how things were on my side of the fence, you'd probably feel the same way.

right, well i think that's mostly right. except that the people who suck won't always suck if they practice and educate themselves. also, i'm a firm believer that genius can be overcome with hard work. in the arts it's the most difficult for this to happen, but it's doable in terms of ones ability to perform the motions, even if they have the imagination of a piece of gravel.

well, yeah. the person who went to school and learned about everything, can operate in a sterile environment, and has the resources to do everything to the best of his ability (not to mention he's liable for everything he does) is much better than the alternative. the government won't back up the worlds best doctor if he never received a degree.

fair enough. but you may want to read this thread if you're having trouble keeping IRL and the internet separate.

I beg to differ. I have met MANY people who have done a lot of fan-fiction or drawings who just sucked and never improved. It was like being in one of those house of horrors where you walk through it and **** jumps out to scare you.

You're right and I find that to be very nauseating. We let a tree dictate who is capable of what and who isn't.

I'd be lying if I said it had anything to do with real life.
