Wondering about the extra content...

Ok, I grabbed a quickie normal edition today from work since its the only copy we had available for purchase early for the staff- not a bother there you say. But thing is I have the collectors edition also waiting for me along with all the bonus content. Anybody know if I will need to restart my game to access all the extra stuff? Personally I wouldn't have thought so but somebody in work today mentioned something along those lines ><
