if I'm going to best buy to buy some RAM , what info about my computer should I know?

How much RAM your motherboard can take and how many slots you have free.

Re: WoW Question

thanks

edit: how would I find out the motherboard's capacity?

edit 2: nvm I figured it out

Re: WoW Question

If I were you I'd buy so much RAM it'd be "over-kill". The minimum specs listed are often for the worst possible quality in graphics and other stuff when the game is run. Much better to beat the crap outta the minium specs and be able to run the game nicely with good graphics.

So yeah uhm...go on a shopping spree!

Thats true, just over a Gig is about right for most games now. Soon as i upgraded i made sure i had 2 Gig just to make sure. Im going to be buying a new GFX card in near future aswel personally.

Damn you workslaves, you've got so much cash..I've been saving like forever for my 360, I don't have the luxury of upgrading my PC aswell (Which is very much needed it seems)

I use to teach how to find the right RAM to sales reps at pcconnection.com
You want to know four things
  1. Make
  2. Model
  3. Current ram (may vary if you've upgraded before)
  4. How much you want when you're done
There are many types of RAM
The two most common today are DDR and DDR2
As Andy was mentioning certain Motherboards can handle different amounts of memory and certain size chips

Your best bet is to find out what brand RAM you want, maybe based on what is carried at your local computer shop. Then go to their web site to select the right ram for your machine. (I recommend Crucial)

NOTE when installing RAM make sure you're grounded even the most undetectable electrical charge can cause ram to become unstable. Not that it won;t work just that it will cause your system to hang crash etc.
