Xbox Disc Tray Issue

Well, my one year old Xbox's disk tray will periodically refuse to open. It eventually will, and the disc never comes out scratched, but It won’t open immediately. I have to press the eject button several times before it makes up its mind.
Any suggestions to how I should clean or fix the Xbox to solve this problem before I have to call Microsoft and waste a good 10 minutes of attempting to commute with someone using a difficult accent?

For my old Xbox, mine would not open easily unless there was a disc already inside it. If there wasn't a disc inside, I'd have to repeatedly push the eject button until I got lucky, or I slide a card through it to unjam it (worked some of the time), changing it's position from vertical to horizontal did nothing, and pushing on the tray when it's jammed would work some of the time.

Eventually the laser went bad and I just replaced the Xbox entirely.

There's some videos on Youtube that probably have a permanent fix for this issue, but it might involve opening up the console.

I've had many problems with xbox in the past but sadly this is not one of them I would recommend searching youtube if theres nothing call Microsoft and don't push on the tray to shut it wears out the gears not saying you have just don't. sorry i couldn't be of more help.


Edit: you wouldn't have this problem with a ps2. Once mine fell 4feet of my shelf with the disc try open after that it wouldn't shut all the way. How I fixed it rammed the tray back up in side of the system worked like a charm.

Yeah, I didnt do anything that would arm the gears. The sliding of a Pretzle shop rewards card has been my solution for the past month or so. Onward to YouTube then.

your xbox has a 3 year warranty. you can still call it in for free repairs

lol so true, i got this muslim dude once and i couldnt make out a word he was saying so i had to hang up and call until i got someone i could actually understand.

Id suggest opening it the xbox, cleaning out all the dust make sure all the plugs are in properly and try again.

wouldnt there be some kind of band or strap that is used to open it? maybe that needs cleaning.

I have an idea. Put your Xbox under a blanket and wait for three red rings. Free repair!

^lol. but you do have to wait a while. that happened to me once (non intentional red rings) and my shipment got delayed and to apologize they gave me a year of live and 1400mcp.

I had the same thing, only way i got around it was to lie my console flat and always keep a disc in the tray otherwise it wouldnt open until i slightly tilted the console while opening it (with no disc inside).

They replaced my whole drive when my 360 had the RROD.

Urgghh, I get this problem sometimes aswell. A couple times a month and after I get it open the disc won't read. Then it takes anywhere from 15 minutes to 2 days to get working again.

ok, i fixed it, cleaned it now its working again.
