Realistic single-player RPG set in the medieval Europe. Open-world sandbox with period accurate melee combat. Dungeons & no Dragons. Its being developed by Warhorse Studios and they want to hit a target of £300,000 in pledges on kickstarter. I personally think the game looks superb and really hope they hit that target...

Can donate here.

  • Non-linear story lets you choose between being a villain or a savior. Every quest can be solved in multiple ways.
  • A revolutionary combat system based on inverse kinematics, the only one of its kind to offer a rich, authentic yet easy-to-control, first-person melee experience. Based on actual 15th century fighting techniques and designed in cooperation with medieval martial arts experts.
  • Improve your character. Different play styles - warrior, rogue or bard - can be mixed and matched as you see fit. You can develop your skills, earn new perks, and fine-tune your equipment.
  • Large realistic, medieval-themed, open world landscape covering 3.5 square miles and 30 hours of gameplay (in first act, out of 3 total).
  • Lead the charge in enormous, open field battles and sieges. You are no superhero. If you’re going to take on an army of enemies, you better find one of your own to back you up.
  • Take a trip through the Middle Ages: Traverse sprawling cities, magnificent castles, towering, dark forests, and muck-strewn villages.
  • Discover this huge world from horseback or on foot. If you can see it, you can visit it.
  • A dynamic world comes alive. Every inhabitant plays a role in their communities, and as night follows day, you can watch people work, help them when needed, or try to interfere in their routine and see what happens.
  • Build relationships with characters, become a criminal or a local hero, seduce local women, threaten your enemies or pardon vanquished opponents.
  • Create your own weapons, cook, brew up potions, or dig around for silver. All crafting occurs in-game, using clever mini-games, rather than boring, soulless menus.

The games kickstarter had hit its target in just 2 days so safe to say there has been lots of interest generated in the game & seems that it IS going to happen. The current amount its on as of typing this is...

10,483 Backers

£320,978 pledged of £300,000 goal

27 days to go

Warhorse games have also revealed a little more details about the 'Acts' in the game, statement was released before they hit their goal...

People ask about Acts, so here is some explanation: Kingdom Come: Deliverance, Act I, as it is planned, is a full scale, stand-alone game. It has 30+ hours of gameplay, complete open world map, all quests and closed story line. Most (if not all) game mechanics described above will be included: horse riding, combat, castle sieges, there will be at least one large-scale battle. Acts II & III extend the story, add new environment in separate maps, new quests, gear and weapons. They will also add new quests to the map of Act I. It will be possible to travel between maps of all Acts, some quests will require you to visit all of them.

We definitely intend to make Acts II & III and release them as soon as possible. However, our funding and schedule does not reach past first Act. We will finalize our plans for the release of Acts II & III when we get closer to the release date of Act I. For these reasons we don’t want to offer and promise them as a Kickstarter reward in their own right. We want to use them as a token of our gratitude to higher tiers backers, but you should think about it more like 100% discount offer than a guaranteed reward.

No official word on details of this as of yet, only other game references I have found are:

- Open world and the freedom of Skyrim
- Storytelling of the Witcher
- Mount and Blade elements
- Tough combat of Dark Souls

Shall post any other details I find as I find them.

Seems the money keeps rolling in and they have now hit £484,500 and have 15,707 backers with 24 days to go.. Warhorse Games have released some more details on the stretch goals which have now added to their Kickstarter which allow supporters to view possible enhancements and pledge money to enrich the experience after hitting the £300,000 target in 36hours.

Presently, there are only 4 stretch goals each one will offer up a new addition...
  • Live in-game period music
  • A symphonic orchestra soundtrack
  • A playable female character
  • Performance motion capture

I am definitely intrigued. Sorry if this has already been mentioned (I just skimmed everything in here), but what system(s) would this game be on?

PC and Mac (rumoured 2015 release) with PS4 and Xbox One in mind at later date depending on publishers and certification between platforms.

They have recently smashed the £600,000 mark (£603,343) so it seems that a female character will be included now and they have recently opened their own forums. Still 17 days to go until the pledges are stopped.

Good. Very good. Character customization is important in this kind of game. Which reminds me, remember when in Fable 3 you had to pay for the Black Dye?

Actually, I have heard that the female character will just be playable in the first part of the game. But I guess it's too late and too much work for someone to do it at this point of development.

They said early on that it would be a prologue chapter I believe so I think thats the route they are going in regards to the playable female character, as her skills will differ from the male character.

The $600,000 stretch goal that was smashed brings in a playable female character. The female character will be a young miller but apart from this little information was given. The miller won’t be playable for the entirety of the title. She will be used to introduce players to the game over a few tutorial missions and according to the developers fits well into the overarching storyline.

Well...

I wouldn't say "sucks" they are the developer and have to come up with something they feel is acceptable for the game they are creating. Since they are a kickstarter project at this height of production it would mean creating so much content that would drastically delay the game and increase the costs.

I don't think this will keep female players away though-- as long female characters in the story get enough respect and aren't treated as sexual objects or are bland.

Having a female or male character option in a role-playing game shouldn't be mandatory. It should be something that fits with the story and the view of the character, but also something that is doable within the schedule and currency that is available to the developer.

You can see a real-world example of this with the Fable franchise. They started with a single male character and when Fable made enough money then they were able to introduce the option of male and female in Fable 2 due to the availability of costs, the maturity of the engine, and the team that could essentially customize the game for two player characters.

However, Fable TLC itself because of its nature also attracted many female gamers that still are active in the communities. That is because as a role-playing action game, Fable isn't something that did mistakes that other action games do. You can count a number of bad-ass female characters throughout Fable, all the way from TLC quite easily.

That said, keep in mind that female players vote with the wallets just as the males. However they tend to be quieter. If a game simply objectifies females and caters towards the ideal "white male" gamer audience then they will simply walk away with their money.

Although this is still a huge dispute with true research behind it. So don't take what I am saying to the heart, it's just what I understand by comparing games that appeal to both males and females alike.

Might be hard to incorporate a female lead into the main portion of the story depending on what the main plotline is. As they are going for the more realistic approach it may be hard to use a woman as a character who can stand up to countless battles using strength and power in those battles to overpower large brutish men as in that era it wasnt exactly a common trait. Unless they go for a Brienne of Tarth (Game of Thrones) type female, but then its still closer to the male character than a female and wouldnt be enough differences to separate them.

If they're just gonna stick her as a tutorial character, they might as well not have included her at all is all I'm saying.

Either include her fully or not at all....

There's no need to be fatalist about this subject. A good female character is always welcomed.

Will no doubt be used as a way to experiment with a female character and listen to some feedback on the sequences to see how to use her best. Bet if she is popular or they can find a way to use a female character properly there will be DLC including her or another female character.
