Fable 2 Pub Games Gold-Earning Glitch Fixed

Supposedly premeditated gold-earning exploit removed with a new patch.

We're still not quite sure if Peter Molyneux was serious when he said he deliberately implemented a gold-earning glitch in Fable 2 Pub Games (with the intent, apparently, to punish those who used it when Fable 2 comes out). But either way, this road to free money is officially closed -- Xbox360Fanboy reports that the exploit has been fixed with a newly released patch.​

In addition to fixing the glitch, the patch also resets the leaderboards for the afflicted "Fortune's Tower" game, so everyone can restart fair and square. This patch does, however, raise an obvious question: If Molyneux intentionally added the glitch in order to catch reprobates cheating their way to a fortune, then why would they patch the game to remove the glitch? Maybe they figured there was no longer any point to it now that their grand scheme had been revealed, but it still seems a little odd to us.

But the fact remains: The glitch is gone, and the temptation to swindle a ton of cash along with it. Of course, you'd never cheat your way to more in-game money, would you?​

sadly enough though, i think there is consequences for cheating. Ijust discovered your a viva pinata fan, do you have that ds version too. You planning to get all achievements for Viva Pinata: Party Animals (is that any good?) .....You are achievement junkie (dnt worry i will turn into one after Fable 2)

I doubt I'll get all the achievements for Party Animals. I might not get them all for TIP. There are so many more games out now then there were when Viva P came out and I have less time than I did then.

Back on topic though I'm really curious what they have in store for those who cheated. SO much so that I created a "Obviously Cheated" patron on a different profile so I could see it first hand.

I was speculating that the "Surprise" would be that you get to import all your gold, but when you tried to buy something the shop keeper would say "We don't want your tainted gold!" :realmad:

Another thought was that the economy would scale proportionally to your unnatural amount of gold to points ratio.

For example:
A normal ratio of gold to points could be around 2%. In the game I set up to test the consequences my ratio was 78%. That's a multiplier of 39!

Therefore under the economies of scale "Surprise" everything in my test game would cost 39 times as much as a regular game. The cool thing is that the 120,000 gold I earned legitimately would be more valuable than the 1.2 Million that I cheated in my test account, a lot more valuable!

In this model incomes wouldn't go up just prices so it would take you forever to earn enough to buy the Castle which, instead of costing one million gold coins, now costs 39 million!

Something that takes away the benefit of having all the gold without taking it from you is what I would like to see.

I don't think it will be anything that ruins the game. I'm guessing that you will get corruption points just from gambling so it would have to be something else for cheating

I recon you'll get a tatoo or scar... maybe black teeth (problems getting girls/guys), big ears (so you look funny) or a really... really small penis as a male, and no breasts at all for the female... I would try to compensate for that with an extremely large sword or incredibly destructive powers.

Im sorry but in my mind this is bull crap i love fable to death. But you dont release a bug in a game to Explot your fans and then telling us it was a trick. Then punising us because we liked the concept of gold because working are ass off in a game to make gold doesnt feel like fun!.
I dont mind if they take away the money but if they decide to screw over the players WHO payed for the damn pub games. Then i have lost all respect for Lionhead.

Now that I think about it, I reckon it would just give you Evil points. I see it as a way for Molyneux to test the players real-life morals etc.

The only problem with the evil point is that those who use it would likely appreciate the evil boost rather than considering it a repercussion.

There was another article today with Peter saying that there will be some repercussions for those who cheated

- The team are well aware of the Pub Games exploit and say that there will be some kind of repercussion for cheating when you import your illgotten gains into Fable II. When that will happen and what form it will take he didn't elaborate on.

OK think about this, You're a developer know for its innovative game play and you have an oppertunity to patch a bug that allows gamers to exploit the system that you have carefully crafted. Do you

• A) Patch the bug and not the effects of the bug.
• B) Patch the bug and address the effects in a dull way.
• C) Patch the bug and address the effects in a way that angers gamers.
• D) Patch the bug and address the effects in a way that is fun and innovative yet discourages others from exploiting bugs in the future.

I don't think Lionhead is looking to ****-off gamers but, I think they will come up with something that is both funny and just.

I think that you will only get screwed if there is a consequence if you have a mountian of money in the beginning.
I have one dude huge in dept...(the guy i focused achievements and unlocks)
A guy with 0 money and all tourney items for my actual Fable xp but i think i used glitch to help get to 0
And a backup with 1000 (glitch) is it still costs 500 to put your pub char to normal
I didn't try to get a dumpload of money I just wanted to even out my money to 0 int he very begininng but with aall the tourney items so it doent seem fair if they screw over everyone that cheated...
