Movie suggestions.

In a futile attempt to get my mind off of the upcoming Fable III, I've decided to watch a bunch of movies. I will not watch anything in white and black simply because they'll be too difficult to find and I'm not exactly fond of seeing such monotone colors on my screen. I'm primarily looking for the following and preferably only the best of the bunch:

Comedies
I don't want no lame romantic comedies either. That chick flick stuff has never and will never be funny. I don't mind the classics like Ace Ventura - Pet Detective or Who Framed Roger Rabbit, I just need really funny stuff. Foreign comedies are also fine.

Martial Arts
No surprise there. I enjoy a good martial arts film, even the funny ones that mock them. I'm a huge fan of Bruce Lee and Jet Li as well as Jason Statham. I love Bruce Lee's classic work and Jackie Chan's too (you know, before he sold his soul).

Action
I'm a huge fan of **** that explodes and badasses with guns. Films with the Governator and Bruce Willis in 'em are obvious choices. As long as a bunch of nameless bad guys are getting their asses kicked and plenty of famous one-liners are said, I'm down with it.

Fantasy
Good fantasy films are as rare as finding a fat guy eating a salad that isn't loaded with bacon bits, cottage cheese, etc. Believe it or not, I did like the Dungeons & Dragons film only because it was so bad, it was good. I'll take anything as long as it has nothing to do with video games or Uwe Boll.

War
Movies like Saving Private Ryan and Blackhawk Down were amazing and weren't afraid to show the dirty, hellish side of war. A captivating plot and plenty of gore are what make 'em great so don't skimp out on the good stuff just because you think I might be squeamish.

Miscellaneous
I have no idea what to classify films like Forrest Gump under but movies like that are touching, funny and somewhat dramatic are great albeit slightly boring. Still, I'm willing to watch it as long as the cast is great and the storyline amazes me.

Animated
I'm a sucker for animated films, yes, even ones you'd more-than-likely rent for your child. I've always considered myself a child at heart and I'm not one to pass up a funny animated film. However, I'm not limiting it to films just like Monsters Inc. or The Incredibles, any anime films like Princess Monoke would be a great suggestion as well.

Western
I'm a HUGE fan of western movies as long as there's as it has a nice balance of trash talkin', gunslingin' and horse ridin'. This should be the easiest category to suggest movies.

---

So far, the only movies I've been suggested are: High Noon, The Magnificent Seven, Rio Bravo, The Searchers, The Wild Bunch, The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance, Tombstone, The Quick & The Dead (this and the one before it are ones I happen to like and wish to watch again), Blazing Saddles and Three Amigos.

Start rolling those suggestions out! We've still got 45 days left until Fable III is released and as long as I've got plenty of movies to watch, I won't have to think about it quite as much.

Re: Movie suggestions.

Comedies
Stranger than Fiction, Kung Fu Hustle, The Court Jester is a classic. it's been recolored so it's not B&W.

Action
Taken, Fight Club, Pulp Fiction,

Kung-Fu
watch Ong Bak and/or The Protector. do NOT watch Ong Bak 2

Fantasy
Constantine

War
Full Metal Jacket and Platoon are good.

Miscellaneous
Forrest Gump is a comedy, but as for this category. Stranger than Fiction, 500 Days of Summer (it is a romance, but it's wicked good. well shot and from a guys perspective. more about breaking up and moving on), Brick (watch with english subtitles)

Animated
watch Samurai X: Truth and Betrayal. it's about Kenshin (from Rurouini Kenshin) and how he came to recieve the title of manslayer. it is incredibly bloody and grim.
Jin-Roh: The Wolf Brigade is a good one
Metropolis - a little odd, but still good.
Princess Mononoke - the most violent anime done by the so called "master": Hayao Miyazaki.

Re: Movie suggestions.

I don't want to step on anyone's toes but I was hoping for specific movie titles. Not just "Look up <insert actor name here>'s stuff".

Also, just because I listed a couple of actors as examples does not mean I'm looking specifically for just their movies. I want any movie that falls into that category that happens to be good, great or fan-****ing-tastic.

Re: Movie suggestions.

If you want animated movies I can list a bunch for ya!

Ninja Scroll, Samurai X, Anything done by Miyazaki (Princess Mononoke, Spirited Away, Castle in the Sky, Kiki's Delivery service, The Cat Returns, Howl's Moving Castle, others I can't remember this second), Paprika (still have to see this one), Ghost in the Shell, Karas 1 and 2, Afro Samurai, Vampire Hunter D 1 and 2(bloodlust), Blood the Last Vampire (series is better imo). Not sure how many of these you'll like but eh decide for yourself.

Also, watch 1985 Legend. Do it, you must.

The Goonies, good 80's(or is it 90's? too lazy to look it up) comedy.

Revenge of the Nerds, Hackers, Breakfast Club, Goodwill Hunting are all great movies.

Hmm.... let's see... If you like the Matrix you should watch the Animatrix, worth at least one viewing. My favorite part is the 1st and 2nd Renaissance.

I'll reply again if I can think of more later.

I was actually expecting to see you post that one when I saw you say Full Metal Jacket and you didn't and I was like "wtf? It's like the King of Nam movies."

Re: Movie suggestions.

Okay, so, I've written down most of these movies and a few of my own. I should be set for quite some time, possibly even until the 26th of October but highly unlikely.

By the way, here's a few suggestions for those of you who might be interested in doing the same thing:

Super Mario Bros., The Relic, Fifth Element, Silver Bullet, The Green Mile, The Mask, Hot Shots! & Hot Shots! Part Deux, Fargo, Galaxy Quest, Death at a Funeral (the original Brit version), The Langoliers, Evil Dead, Evil Dead 2, Army of Darkness and War. Plus the ones I listed in my first post and the ones y'all suggested should be enough for anyone.

However, this doesn't mean I'm done with suggestions. If you know any great movies, list them! Just no chick flicks, please. If you list horror movies make sure they're either really scary or really funny.

I hope these are ALL movies because I'm not looking for T.V. series just yet. I'll get to that later.

Re: Movie suggestions.

Some are TV series I believe. Unless you wanna see the Afro Samurai movie. I keep it on my iPod. As a Black-Asian I have to have it.

Re: Movie suggestions.

I can't name much tbh, but I recently watched Crank which was a pretty poor movie I thought, but it was exactly what you described for action - Big guns, bad guys getting pwned and a heroic douche.

It was a pretty fun action film that you may want to look into.

6th Day was bad-ass, I don't know anyone else who thinks the same, though.

Re: Movie suggestions.

Comedy + Martial Arts + Western = Shanghai Noon. :p (And it's sequel Shanghai Knights, but the original is best.) It's mostly a Western-Comedy, with Owen Wilson as hilarious cowboy. The martial arts are delivered by Jackie Chan. w00t. Can't really describe it, I thought it was just an amazing movie. xD
