Re: My Pokémon Emerald Party

wouldn't having both Alakazam and Gengar be a plus then?

Re: My Pokémon Emerald Party

Yes.... but the only real advantage of a Gengar is that they are unaffected by fighting or normal attacks - you can teach Alakazam Shadow ball, which would allow it to beat psychic types, the miracle eye allows it to beat dark types, so theres really no need for a Gengar in that party.

Re: My Pokémon Emerald Party

Miracle Eye is IV generation or..?

Also, my Alakazam will know Psychic, Recover, Shadow Ball and Calm Mind.

What is a good nature for it? I'm thinking either a Sp. Att booster naturally, a Speed booster or an Attack booster to give Shadow Ball a bit of extra kick. But I'm not sure. I'm leaning more towards Attack booster but I'm not sure which stat to decrease..

Re: My Pokémon Emerald Party

Shadow ball is sp.att., so there's no need to boost att.

A good nature would be either modest or mild, both boost sp.att. (which is what you'll use most) and descrease either attack or defense (which aren't really useful on Alakazam).

You can find a list of natures here and decide your own though.

Ah yes, Miracle Eye is Gen 4 only, I'd go for Calm Mind instead then, yes.

Ghost type moves are Att. up til generation III. Sp. Att in gen IV. So I will need to boost Att. What to do, what to do..

Ah, in that case, it's really up to you. You could always go to Slateport and buy loads of the Attack boosting nutrient thing. really your call, tbh.

I have:

Tyranitar Lv75, Modest Nature
Holding: King's Rock

  • Crunch
  • Rock Slide
  • Flamethrower
  • Earthquake
Blissey Lv75, Bold Nature
Holding: Leftovers

  • Toxic
  • Counter
  • Softboiled
  • Seismic Toss
Dragonite Lv75, Modest Nature
Holding: Leftovers

  • Outrage
  • Ice Beam
  • Thunderbolt
  • Flamethrower
I need 3 more Pokémon to make a good party. I'm most proud of my Blissey cause of its nature and moves. Toxic/Leftovers for constant, long-battle damage/health regen, Counter is perfect because it has a low defence, massive Hp and will reverse all damage 2-fold, which covers its weakness. Softboiled, naturally. Seismic Toss to counter Blissey's tiny attack power.

I would like some ideas for 3 more Pokémon, non-legendary, which cover: Psychic, fighting, grass/bug maybe.., water, electric and/or steel. Pokémon need to be rare but obtainable on Fire Red/Ruby/Emerald. I would've had a Slowking but its only on Leaf Green :(

Tyranitar is alright, but I would take more advantage of his attack and replace Flamethrower and Crunch with Brick Break and Aerial Ace. Then I'd give him a jolly nature.

Blissey isn't too bad. Counter might allow you to deal more damage because of his low defense, but that's risky business. He could get killed pretty quickly and wouldn't have a chance to use Counter. I'm a safer and more defensive battler, so my Blissey knows Flamethrower, Toxic, Softboiled, and Attract. Flamethrower works well because his special attack is actually pretty decent. You got the nature right, though.

Dragonite looks good. I'd teach him Surf rather than Outrage because Outrage would only be super effective against dragon-types, and you've already got that covered with Ice Beam. Surf, however, would allow you to score super effective hits on fire and rock-type Pokemon, something that those other three moves wouldn't give you. Still, you'd get STAB off of Outrage, so it's mostly about which one you think is more important.

Alakazam it is. Two more spaces to fill, I'm quite keen on a strong bug type but I'm aware that there probably aren't any other than Heracross. I like the Aggron idea, I'll look into it. So 1/2 spaces to fill.

Pinsir and Scizor would serve you well. A good move setup for Pinsir would be Brick Break, Rock Slide, Swords Dance, and Earthquake. For Scizor, I'd go with Aerial Ace, Slash, Swords Dance, and Iron Defense. A rash nature would work best for both of them.

My idea for a bug is a use against Psychic, but I could always use dark type moves. Any good dark Pokémon? :p

Houndoom would be the best option if you're looking for a dark Pokemon. I'd give him Flamethrower, Crunch, Will-o-wisp, and Counter/Reversal. Oh, and a bold nature.

If you want a dark go for Houndoom, good Sp Atk and Spd. Nasty Plot, Flamethrower, and Dark Pulse...excellent.

Nasty Plot and Dark Pulse aren't options. We're talking about the 3rd gen.

Get rid of Shadow Ball. His attack is too weak for even a beneficial nature to have enough of an effect on it. Plus, without Shadow Ball, you'll have a stat that you can lower with his nature without any ramifications. Instead, teach him Fire Punch and give him a bold nature.

Oh, I almost forgot. I highly recommend Poliwrath. You can teach him Hypnosis, Substitute, and Focus Punch. Put your enemy to sleep first, then use Substitute, then Focus Punch. You can tighten your focus while they're asleep, and even if they wake up early, you've got Substitute protecting you so that you won't loose your focus. Then, BAM! 150 power plus STAB. That's a devastating blow. The fourth move isn't as important, but I'd go with Earthquake. An adamant nature would work best for him. Or, if you want to teach him a special attack like Surf or Psychic, you should go with an Impish nature.

EDIT: Shirosaki, would you mind if I posted two new parties I recently made? I thought I should ask first since it's your thread. If not, it's totally cool. I can just as easily make another thread. :D

Sure, post away. Pokémon threads always attract my attention, I dunno why. I like reading about other people's parties and stuff.

I've already used my Earthquake and Brick Break Tms and I can't be bothered making a new game on Ruby for example to get a spare. I'll do the Poliwrath idea, but I'm not sure about Fire Punch for Alakazam, maybe barrier or something?

And I'll EV train or whatever you call it for Blissey's defence to make it more safe. I overkill Pokémon with counter anyway, it has over 200 Sp. Def so Sp. Atts don't do anything, and there's always Softboiled. Any physical or normal attacks deal about 300 damage and counter makes it over 600s. Blissey's Hp is like 500 so it can take it and softboil next turn.

Also, I might EV or whatever train Alakazam so its attack is good enough for an effective Shadow Ball?

Haunter. Gengar, IMO, is inferior.

Have you used both TMs on all three of your games? If so, you can at least buy Brick Break at the Celadon City department store in Fire Red. You could also get an action replay. I know some people have mixed feelings about using those, but using a TM cheat is still considered ethical cheating.

Shirosaki;389091 said:

I considered that, but not having another attack that actually does damage could cause problems when fighting against a Pokemon that is resistant to psychic attacks. I chose Fire Punch because it can be used to attack dark, steel, and psychic Pokemon (all types that Psychic won't do well against). Plus, it is super effective against four types unlike Thunderpunch, which is only super effective against two. Ice Punch is super effective against four, but one of them is dragon, and there aren't very many dragon Pokemon, so you probably won't encounter too many.

What exactly do you mean by this?

Even with a beneficial nature and full EV training on his attack, it most likely won't even break 200 when Alakazam reaches level 100. That's pretty bad. If you're clinging to Shadow Ball because you need something that's good against psychic Pokemon, getting a dark Pokemon with Crunch would be a much better idea. Like I said before, I recommend Houndoom.

I'll post my parties in a little while.
