US / NATO Chinook Crashes in Afghanistan.

Unfortunately, on a raid, a NATO Chinook Helicopter carrying US Army Special Forces, 20 US Navy Seals and 7 Afghanistan Commandos was shot down by an RPG during the night raid. The Seals killed in the crash were part of the famous Seal Team Six unit, but none of those who died were in the group that raided Osama's Compound, they were in the same unit. Due to such a large group of Special Forces soldiers on board the chopper, it can be assumed that the target they were after was a high valued or high wanted individual. This is one of the most single event losses for the Navy Seals in the Afghanistan War. A war which has become increasingly expensive, and unpopular not just among Americans but the world. One can also say it is an unnecessary war, but I suppose that would be opinion based.

It's sad that they died, but those are the risks that you face when you're putting your life on the line in the field. Hopefully this ends sooner rather than later so there won't be anymore casualties.

I don't see how anybody can say that its unnecessary, the Taliban killed a lot of their own people and harboured terrorists. If we hadn't deposed them, people would still be getting mutilated, and women would still be treated as sub-human.

Lets go invade Sudan, Zimbabwe, Nigeria and Somalia then. This war was never totally about human rights, and it would be naive to think so. That's not to say that good work isn't being done, though. It's a tough question.

I can say it because it's no different than any other corrupt country. Should we have invaded the Soviet Union because Stalin was starving millions of his people? What about Africa? Dear God if we're going to invade Afghanistan over human rights, we should have full force assaulted Africa. But we didn't. Where do you draw the line, is the question. Do we continue to send young Americans, does Britain continue to send young Brits and Canadians and Australians and all the other coalition forces over to these countries? You have to consider how much damage you've done. What have we actually done over there? We end up making more enemies than friends.

The 101st Airborne came home from Afghanistan saying they felt like they had accomplished nothing and they were on ghost hunts. Nothing has truly changed in Afghanistan or Iraq. Bombings, killings and rapes have continued on not only our soldiers but their civilians and their newly formed police forces. They'll continue to happen while we are there and after we leave.

The SEALs and Commandos were on a rescue mission to assist US Rangers who had came under fire from Taliban forces. It is still unknown whether they had accomplished their mission and went down after they succeeded or whether they went down approaching the battle.

I will admit that my post sounded naive, and that I will try to avoid that in the future. I didn't mean it was all about human rights. I just don't see how it could be called unnecessary, because the taliban were harbouring terrorists, and even helped train them.

What's even funnier is that we actually helped train them. The CIA & US Government gave billions of dollars in equipment and training to early Taliban "Freedom Fighters" INCLUDING Osama Bin Laden to fight the Soviets in the Soviet-Afghan War. So we trained them and gave them the weapons to fight one enemy only for them to turn around and eventually use it on their own people and us.

It's a sad loss and my heart and prayers go out to their families. Being deployed, it's already hell having to deal with missing your loved ones. I can't imagine how it must feel for their families, already missing their absence, and only having that knowing that they'll come back in a years time; However, now knowing, their loved ones will never return. I know my wife and I miss each other greatly whenever I'm deployed.

My personal opinion on our situation in Afghanistan, or in the Middle-East, is we should just pull out. I know that I and fellow Soldiers don't want to be deployed, we don't want to be there. I'd rather much be at home with my wife, on the soil that I fight for, that I serve for, to see the people I defend, rather than seeing people who don't want us there, people who hate us, a land that I have no devotion to. I don't see how I'm defending or serving my country by being in another and defending their people. I know it may sound a little cold hearted, but we've already trained them and showed them how to handle themselves, that should be enough.

And to my fallen brothers: Hooah!

My solution to this mess, is put all the Leaders in a field with big sticks, and let them fight it out.:sly:
I guarantee there wouldn't be anymore wars, after they all kill each other.
