A bit of old news, but posting anyway. An 18-year old Taiwanese boy identified by only his surname (Chaung) was found in a private room he booked in a cafe 1 week ago, when he was woken by an attendant he stood up for a brief moment to walk a few steps and then collapsed and was pronounced dead. It's speculated that his cause of death was due to dehydration and a lack of circulation from sitting around in that position for too long.
It absolutely baffles me how a person can have such a lack of discipline to not pause, put down the controller, and get something to drink and eat. The game is not going anywhere, it can wait. Somebody please tell me this game has a pause button because there's just no excuse. Tsuyu? Anybody?

Source,

Sounds like this could result in a south park episode. Certainly has the stench of World of warcraft's addiction to it.

It is always the Asians. If it is not a Taiwanese, it is a Chinese.

And as far as I recall, the case not that long ago also involved a gaming café.

I guess their gaming culture is just more hardcore or something...

It's not like this is the first time this has happened. There's been several instances of people dying from gaming binges, and you just find it so hard to imagine dying from playing video games, but it can happen. Gaming Addiction is a b*tch. Glad I don't have it.

Not the first time it has happened, no, but given how many times it has happened in the past one would think people would have learned from others mistakes by now (especially the Koreans).

You'd think people would learn from the mistakes of people that have died from lung cancer due to smoking or heroine overdoses too but nope.

That's almost as ridiculous as this. How someone could do either of these incredibly heroic feats is beyond me. I physically can't play video games for longer than 10 hours straight, my eyes start hurting too much.

I'm sure most victims must have had some kind of pre-existing condition or something in order to die by gaming. It's seems hard to imagine your average person dying from playing too much, then again your average video gamer doesn't spend 40+ hours on video games. If he went all that time without sleeping or eating then it was probably exhaustion that actually killed him.

I dug through several articles on him and I didn't see any reports about him having any existing conditions. They say it was dehydration and lack of circulation in the body (he never moved from the minute he first sat down), he was asleep when they found him but he died after they woke him when he tried to walk. So my guess is that he collapsed when his body called for the necessary energy for the needed strength to walk, but there was none to provide. The body cannot function without water.

But i just don't get it, how can a person manage to not be bothered to grab a bite of something or to quench their thirst for that long? It only takes a minute or few to grab a drink/snack or start up a meal. Or was he just so zoned out into the game that he didn't even know his body was thirsty and hungry?

I know, completely unbelievable isn't it? I wouldn't be surprised if this was some kind of hoax. How someone can let that happen to themselves baffles the mind. I never go more than 3-5 hours without eating something during the day, even when I'm playing a video game marathon, there's just no excuse really.
