80s VS Today's music

So as most of you who spend time on youtube, see that there are videos featured only with Lady Gaga and the c** dumpster Kesha.
There was one comment that had a lot of thumbs up (people agreed with it) which made me think what is the world coming to. The comment has obviously made by a 11 year old kid who apperantly thinks that (and quote)

"

"

This is what I just read on the Lady Gaga video that I just clicked.

I am really actually surprised and I don't judge any of the artists of today saying that they do not have talent but some of them are absolutely horrible. What do you guys think of todays music compared to the 60s to 80s. Example as Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton and many other music gods.
My personal opinion is that some of todays children have no idea what music means and that the old music can NOT be compared with what we hear on the radio today. Nothing is going to match the 60s and 80s.

PS. Even tough its username says 1994. The comment clearly shows that he is still in kindergarden or in early school.

Re: 80s VS Today's music

It's people like this that make me with I was born in the 80's. Or even better, the 50's/60's. Teens can listen to good stuff too. It's just a majority of them are musically challenged and think that Clapton and Beatles are "Old People Music".

Also, you might want to put the pictures into spoilers and/or take out the word "cum dumpster" before Ke$Ha. May be offensive to people.

Exactly. People like that have no idea what music is. But to actually say that the 80's or 60's music sucks, then its not about tastes anymore. It's about mental problems.

Re: 80s VS Today's music

Same here, I wish i was born in the 80's also. I don't like todays music industry or any of the artists out there. I listen to the 90's music alot because that's when hip hop rose to power (;, But asides from all of that hip hop died now And alot of the kids today think music now is really great, but can't realise it can't compare to the music before. As how i am really passionate about music, I give today's music 2/10. Also this is my opinion. You don't have to agree with me and that's okay. I hope this thread won't have any hating or arguments :x

Re: 80s VS Today's music

I think most people here would agree that 80s music is the business, and modern pop is rubbish. Take a look at punk - The Clash, Sex Pistols, Bad Brains, were gods, modern pop-punk has nothing on them.

Most modern music also stemmed from alot of 60s and 80s stuff - the Beatles influenced pretty much all modern music, Led Zeppelin was the father of hard rock and metal, etc.

Re: 80s VS Today's music

Timeline of Awesome (off the top of my head):

The 60s - The Beatles, Bob Dylan, The Rolling Stones, The Who.

The 70s - AC/DC, Aerosmith, The Allman Brother's Band, Blue Oyster Cult, Black Sabbath, Jethro Tull, Kansas, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Journey, Rush, ELVIS, thanks Purple Nurple.

The 80s - Metallica, Iron Maiden, Slayer, Alice Cooper, Beastie Boys, Bon Jovi, The Clash, Def Leppard, Slayer, Death, Morbid Angel, Possessed, Guns N' Roses, Soundgarden, Queensyrche, Radiohead, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Dream Theater, Nirvana.

The 90s - Mastodon, Necrophagist, Smashing Pumpkins, R.E.M., Beck, Rage Against The Machine, U2, Counting Crows, Third Eye Blind, Alice In Chains, Stone Temple Pilots.

The 00s - Job For a Cowboy, The White Stripes, Queens of the Stone Age, Muse, Wolfmother, Coheed and Cambria, Opeth, The Strokes, Tool.

Jeez, I really blanked out on some decades..

(By the way, all these are like, whatchacallit, approximate, 'cause most bands start in one decade and get big in another, etc. Jeez, it's really late for me to be thinking this hard.)

Re: 80s VS Today's music

Eh, I like classic rock/metal, but tech/melodic death metal has been growing on me lately. I hate it when people hear my music from my head phones (I play it loud, my ears suck) and they assume I'm one of those hipster kids that wears band t-shirts and goes into a cafe to write a story or an essay on a mac and whatnot. :hmm:

If only there were floating words above our heads that form into a biography. Then we wouldn't need to judge people by their looks.

Re: 80s VS Today's music

Kids today just aren't exposed to the same kind of music. I'm sure in 20 years they'll all be saying that the music of then isn't as good as Lady Gaga. It's about perspective.

But to answer your question, I think that any music that doesn't require any musical skill or knowledge to write is pretty rubbish. Musicianship fell out of music starting in the 80s, and it's only gotten worse. Sure, I mean Lady Gaga can sing, but she also never wears pants, and stirs up controversy wherever she goes. It's not even about the music anymore.

Basically this. The problem with a lot of youth is that they don't take the time to look for music beyond the radio, beyond what's popular on the net, or beyond what's on television, people say all of music from this decade is horrid but that's just not true. Not if you take the time to look beyond what's mainstream and actually dig around.

Lady Gaga can sing, but beyond that she's clearly desperate for attention and to be a superstar, her "originality" and funky yet controversial fashion styles have all been done by other quirky pop-stars in the past, especially in Japan. She's really nothing new or special.

Having grown up in the 80s, a lot of the music from then I have a very soft spot for. But people were *****ing back then about the pop music in the 80s, calling it horrible and that the new wave of electronic music & glam metal/rock is going to ruin music forever. These were usually fans of music from prior decades, same thing in the 90s.. fans of older music (from the 80s and back) were calling music of the 90s trash.
