And as for my question... if an orange is called an orange, why isn't a banana called a yellow?

The colour was actually named after the fruit.

The word "Orange" originated from the Arabic word "Naranj" which is their name for the fruit.

Gradually over time as people were talking "A Naranj" slowly turned into "An Aranj" and eventually "An Orange".

The colour was then named after the fruit.

Lies. "What?" is a very useful question. Like "um," and "er" and so on, you can say it while stalling for time to think of something. If you need MORE time, you can actually wait until they repeat what they said.

Also, if you have ****ty hearing you need to say "what?" otherwise you can just guess what the **** they're talking about.
