Banned Mormon Cartoon

Well of course not. I just mentioned them because that's what the thread was about. There definitely have been groups that have done some other things that take away certain people's rights and liberties in the name of religion. For example, nazis thought that they were carrying out god's will when they killed 11 million people.

I’m pretty sure that a lot of Nazis could care less about Gods will... some might of, but I seriously doubt it considering Hitler was not what I would call a big fan of Christianity (dictators like to twist what they can to support themselves, but let’s face it, the bible is pretty clear about mass murder. Unless you take VERRRRRRRRRY small bits and pieces out of it… In fact religion in itself guarantees the develop of actual MORALS and can be valued by an individual over the dictator’s decision: Long story short, better to stamp out all religion as much as possible)

As for me I agree with CheezMcNASTY and take my queues from South Park.
And Jospeh Smith was called a prophet- Dumb, Dumb, Dumb, Dumb, Dumb! Even though no body else ever saw it- Dumb, Dumb, Dumb, Dumb, Dumb!

All In all I found this video quite silly.

Well, christianity might not have been the main thing that drove them, but as an organization, they were definitely affiliated with christianity, and I know for a fact that the American nazi party operates under (their own) christian principles.

Hehe, Their own would have to be the operative word in that statement.

I fail to see how being an organization immediately affiliates them all with a religious group unless the purpose of the group is derived from that religion. Like I said Hitler would have rather destroyed Christianity. The problem with that plan is that Christianity is freaking huge. So he twisted what little he could to justify and most churches suffered under him. Either you preach what he tells you or you die.
That is simply not christianity.
And as I stated earlier all religion is dangerous to tyrants. Unless of course that religion teaches that the tyrant is a God then it gives people the opportunity to value their God's (or Gods') ideals over their leaders. If Hitler ever finished his little conquest he would have snuffed out ALL religion as well as any scholars or artists. He was already working on it.

Who gives a ****? Some people are dicks, and some people aren't dicks. Some of the dicks are crazy about their religion. Doesn't make religion bad.

I stopped giving a s*** about what people believe a few months ago. A person's religion doesn't define their whole identity. I used to know a mormon guy, and he was a pretty smart and decent dude.

Lucky you, the mormons I've bumped into weren't very decent folks, but I try not to generalize (previous post being a joke). A religion may not define all believers' identities, but I've definitely seen it completely drive a few people's judgments and personalities.

Actually, take a look back at all the bad crap that has been done in the name of religion, mainly Christianity...

It's bad. Real bad.

To some extent I agree, but most of the blame for bad things done in the name of some religions comes down to the individual, not the religion itself. But yeah, the Old Testament of Christianity... some very bad stuff.

I'm talking widely spread things here. The suppression of science that put us back a few hundred years scientifically wasn't the idea of some single individual.

That was just a bunch of dicks who got together and ****ed on everything.

This has been discussed over and over and over and over and.... sorry had to check my fries... agreed with Arseface.

Also, "dark ages" is a myth. Quoting Wikipedia is shallow, but it basically says the same thing I've learned from high school and university. Like:
"Other misconceptions such as: "the Church prohibited autopsies and dissections during the Middle Ages", "the rise of Christianity killed off ancient science", and "the medieval Christian church suppressed the growth of natural philosophy", are all cited by Ronald Numbers as examples of widely popular myths that still pass as historical truth, although they are not supported by current historical research.[49] They help maintain the idea of a "Dark Age" spanning through the medieval period."

Soooo... They didn't forget that the Earth was spherical, after the Greeks found out? Then what was all that 'Don't sail too farm because you'll fall off the Earth'-stuff about...

That's also a myth. It's pretty obvious to anyone who has an horizon that the world is spherical.

I find that very hard to believe.

Who gives a f***? Some people are dicks, and some people aren't dicks. Some of the dicks are crazy about their religion. Doesn't make religion bad.

But without religion, the dicks wouldn't have much of an excuse for the bad stuff that they caused. At the very least, that makes religion partially bad.

Galileo? Copernicus?

This: I agree.
The problem is not with religion but with humanity in general. People do silly, stupid, dicky stuff. For. no. reason.

I find that very hard to believe.

Why would you find that hard to believe? Hitler wasn't stupid. Christianity was definately a threat to him, and he acknowlegded that. There are numerous accounts of him plotting to destory it and acting on it as well.
The problem for your confusion is that Hitler "claimed" to be a Christian in some of his speeches and some Nazi's have "connections" to the so called church. Well, I hate to point out the obvious but Hitler was politician (and a very good one at that) and they all tend to speak out of both sides of their mouth to convince their mindless hoard of followers. Many people in general tend to do that to justify their actions.
As for the whole "No religion = no excuses" argument is just wrong. Any group (religious, political, etc) can be dangerous purely because of the threat of group mentality. All you need is one wacko with some horrible ideas but who is charismatic enough to make them sound good and then **** hits the fan.
This is why I don't like politicians.

This is kinda fun for me, sorry guys but I enjoy arguments and debates. I think I have more friends who are on the opposite political spectrum than I am on and though we can't agree on ANYTHING (Including the temperature of the room. I say its hot, they say its cold) we really get into it until we're red in the face and start laughing. It's really funny according to bystanders.
I hope im not upseting any of you. I am not a troll... or at least I think I'm not a troll.
Well. I try not to be a troll.
