I have been hearing about detective stories. Almost everybody I know seems to read them, and they have long conversations about them in which I am unable to take part. The most serious public figures of our time, have been addicts of this form of fiction with mystery. The other root comes with romance stories reach or scrolling through snapshots of events or sensations that we remember. had collected from one premier organizations for mystery and crime writers, professionals allied to the crime writing field, aspiring crime writers, and folks who just love to read crime fiction. Are there anyone interested and experienced in these? Please share your experiences here.

I'm befuddled. You join a Fable forum to make a single post about mystery romances using somewhat odd grammar and diction. You MUST be a spambot, right?

...that being said, I actually have an opinion about this. Lois McMaster Bujold writes a series called the Vorkosigan Saga that mixes sci-fi, military, mystery, and romance in various quantities, and they're kinda awesome.

I'm going to check this out, Walker, thanks.

I should warn you that the early ones lean towards the military side of things, with a heavy romance sub-plot. They're what she uses to sucker you in. Then some of the later ones are heavier on the mystery.

Then you hit "A Civil Campaign" and it's basically a pure romance. IN SPACE. But I actually enjoyed it.

Ah, I was wondering why it (or her name) sounded so familiar. A friend suggested the Barrayar books a long time ago already so I was going to pick them up eventually. Well... more the reason to read them.

The Dresden Files.

You're welcome.

****, dude, why'd you do that to the poor bastard? Once he reads the Dresden Files all other mystery and urban fantasy will same inadequate by comparison. Not much can stand up to a polka-powered zombie t-rex, you know.

Yeah, I never know what to call them. I've had conversations with people who looked at me blankly when I called 'em one thing, then understood when I switched it up. Barrayar, Vorkosigan Saga, them there books by whatserface.

The Dresden files. Daamn... this one sounds awesome as well.

Gonna hit the library tomorrow perhaps and see what I can get. Though I still need to finish Tales of the Otori's last book. And oh damn, when I got out from service I found out the third book in the.... damn this Internet. Well, a series by Aleksei Pehhov, a pure DnD style fantasy, the third book has meanwhile been translated to English, can't wait to read that one as well.

Never read Tales of the Otori, though I saw them in the library and thought about it. How are they?

I think they are cool. A little different fantasy reading if you're used to the more adventure/action oriented books as it focuses more on character's feelings and interactions. Not to mention the Asian/Japanese setting - you know, bricking in (I don't know if that's the correct phrase, I did use a rather reliable dictionary) a mason into the bridge he built so that he could never build a bridge as good as that one again. Also, characters die... a lot.

If you do pick them up, I recommend you read the prologue first, which was, I think, the last book released.

I might have to try them. My most recent attempt at trying something new-- The Black Company series by Glen Cook-- looks like it's going to fail, just because I can't get into a series that's so depressing.

Guys, this is a spambot.

Dark Intellect, I never fail to be astounded by the insight, wisdom, and all around constructive nature of your posts. Thank you for contributing.

Jesus Christ, it's like you WOULDN'T take any chance you get to talk about your favorite books.

Since we're on the topic of sci-fi, I suggest anything by Brent Weeks. The man is a genius at political fantasy epics. His Night Angel trilogy is phenomenal.

I actually own one of those! The library had it on their used books cart, so I grabbed it. But I only read two pages and didn't really get into it.

You say I should try again? The one I got... I don't remember, but I THINK from looking at the cover art on his page, that I have Shadow's Edge. Which looks like the second book in a trilogy...

Not all stories seems to be the same. I am talking about the pure fiction that is the mystery and detective ones and some among the romantic stories.

Captain SpamBot, you're my best friend.

Yeah, there are three books:
1: The Way of the Shadows, 2: Shadow's Edge, 3: Beyond the Shadows. He later wrote a prequel novella called The Perfect Shadow (which is only available as an e-book). But I do think you should give the series a shot. I loved it.

Best mystery romance novels... do fanfics count?

As a fan fic author (link in sig), I can say that yes. It does count.

I am having the first two of these books in my collection but not the others. Is this available anywhere other than ebook? Please produce some attachments if having any details about this. Thanks in advance.
