alright, go ahead. roll your eyes. i know you're going to do it anyway, since the oscars have a horrible bias towards the budget/likeability of a movie as opposed to how intellectual it may actually be....not to mention foreign films get the short end of the stick.
we won't be catering to the foreign disadvantage here (foreign relative to me, anyway), though Exit Through the Gift Shop: A Banksy Film has my vote for best documentary.

tl;dr lets vote on who we think deserves to win.
just to be clear, this isn't a prediction, this is who you think should be recognized above the others based on which ones you bothered to watch.

Only seen Inception and Toy Story 3 out of those but i do want to see The Fighter and True Grit. I think it could be quite close between The Kings Speech, 127 Hours, The Social Network and Black Swan after hearing critics praise for them. However i think The Kings Speech will most likely win it.

I've also only seen two of them (the same two that Drakan saw). I would have seen The Social Network and 127 Hours already, but they're not out on DVD quite yet, and I don't bother seeing movies in theaters anymore unless I have a gift card or it's something that I've been waiting for and really want to see. I really don't know which one is going to win because I know nothing about the majority of the nominees, but if I had to pick the one that I would want to win, it'd be Inception just based on the fact that I enjoyed it more than Toy Story 3 (though Toy Story 3 was amazing; no one can argue against that).

Kings Speech. I haven't seen it, but after what happened at the BAFTAs, I think it has a really good chance.

I consider Toy Story 3 to be god in film form, but I think The King's Speech, Inception or The Social Network will most likely win.

toy story fans....consider this: the only animated film to date that ever won a best picture oscar was Beauty and the Beast.

do you all really think Toy Story 3 is worthy of carrying on that legacy? don't get me wrong, i loved it. it wasn't the best of the trilogy but it was fantastic and definitely worth its nomination. personally i thought it fell short of Wall-E. so if nothing else, for the sake of consistency, i'd rather see either of the two independent surprise nominees take it. that's Kings Speech and Winters Bone.

though, i wouldn't mind seeing Black Swan or Social Network win, since they're both from favorite directors. I agree with the several who mentioned Kings Speech though. it's an independent movie that is easy for the academy to embrace. Helena Bonham-Carter deserves a best supporting actress for it in the very least.

Ah. I didn't know that. While I'd love that to win, I doubt it'd win best PICTURE Oscar. So maybe something different.

My preference is for Black Swan. The acting and performance on screen were just awesome, and the story is really well done.

Personally I can't ever vote for remakes. John Wayne still owns True Grit, as far as I'm concerned...

black swan was a great in acting directing, concept, everything. i didn't think it all came together as it should. considering how the trailer looked and all that it fell short in the general "make your mind wtf" department. if you saw the trailer, you already knew the twist. the whole swan lake juxtaposition thing was a bit too in your face for my liking.

don't get me wrong, Darren Aronofsky is one of my idols as far as directors go, and the fact that lol no speech for king Kings Speech won a directing oscar is proof enough that the awards do not go to someone who tries to be intelligent and original, and manages to succeed. kings speech was many great things, including deserving of best picture (come on, who didn't see it coming?) but in terms of cinematography and directing it was about as innovative as Superbad.

By the way, if you enjoyed black swan you should check out Aronofsky's other two artsy and/or wierd films if you haven't already: Pi and Requiem for a dream.

Requiem was another fun movie to watch, I agree. Haven't seen Pi though.

Ah well, whatevs. My two favored movies of the year won awards for things: Black Swan for Natalie Portman's performance and Alice in Wonderland for art direction & costume design.

Wow I always thought Tron was up there for best score...
Was waiting for Daft Punk to get the award.

I didn't really enjoy the soundtrack out of context of the movie. It's not something you can just listen to.

Well, for one, when watching Tron, I sometimes felt I was watching a 2-hour Daft Punk music video. It actually overshadowed the movie.
And second, for a person walking around with the whole soundtrack on a MP3 player I obviously can't agree. Though I may understand it since the tracks themselves have a more ambient, subtle vibe to them, not making them straightforward songs. It's just me liking that particular aspect.
