Buy anything cool on Black Friday?

For those of you in the USA, did you go out and buy any cool stuff on Black Friday?

Me and my boyfriend camped out at Best Buy overnight, which was something I've never done before. We got there around 6:30 PM on Thursday and were about 16th in line. By the time the store opened at 5:00 AM on Friday there were probably 400 people waiting outside! We froze our butts offs for what seemed like an eternity, but I got the laptop I've been wanting for $250 off, so it was well worth it! :)

For those who live in other countries and don't know what the hell I'm talking about, Black Friday is the day after Thanksgiving (which you probably don't have either), and every store known to man has HUGE sales and people go crazy and stand out in line all night to get the good sale items and everyone spends ridiculous amounts of money. It's pretty much just another thing that Americans do that doesn't really make sense... but we do it anyway, well, just because! :p

I don't mean to be rude but, I've never seen the appeal of camping outside of a store all night, just for a discount. If you really want a good price, then it's a matter of who you know. My Xbox for example I got for almost free, it fell of the back of a truck.

Honestly, I thought it sounded pretty awful too and orignially just did it to keep my boyfriend company. Surprisingly, it actually ended up being kind of fun! I don't know, maybe I'm just a masochist who thrives on the torture of endless hours in the freezing cold :p

Hmmm... apparently I DON'T know the right people. Where exactly do you meet someone who, umm, acquires the boxes that fall of the backs of trucks anyway?

I picked up Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood. Then I saw Fable III for $40 and thought, "Damn, I should've waited a month."

Either way, I'll be thoroughly entertained this Winter. And beyond, hopefully.

Yeah, I hate when you don't know people that throw stuff off of the back of trucks.

Excellent choices!! V for Vendetta is one of my personal favorites. Requiem for Dream is quite a mind f***... and so are Seven, Pi and Fight Club for that matter. Hmm... I guess you're into that kinda thing. Niiiiice!! :D

Well here in Blighty Amazon.co.uk's Black Friday Week was..well...crap. Ok, so there was like the odd 360 or Wii going for less than £100 but before you could even click on them and get in the queue, they were sold out. Lots of frying pans on offer though (???) and I was drooling over diamonds all week but the ones I wanted were constantly out of stock.

However, Steve did manage to get the entire collection of Heroes (we've never seen it before so thought we may as well give it a go) for £29 - down from £80. That's not too bad. Amazon gave off the impression there would be a lot of really great deals going on but the vast majority of stuff was the sort of thing you couldn't normally shift anyway. Or it was Guitar Hero at just £5 off (which isn't much of a deal, to be honest). Maybe next year they'll try harder?

All deliciously awesome movies! V is one of my very top favorites as well.

When I could be bothered to get out of bed (around 9:30) I scruffed around for a while, finally mosying out the door around 11. Best Buy and Kohls were still packed to the walls with people, stores that did not have sales did not. Regardless, I simply strolled in, found what I wanted to get, and exited easy as pie. No need for overnight frostbite for me! All told I saved ~$150 off the normal retail price for my purchases, so that was pretty neat.

"What's in the box man, what's in the box!?!"

Great line. Spoofed in Robot Chicken (another awesome, though the 1st season is best)

For Black Friday I stayed at home and played Halo, then I watched Dcigs' Black Friday video and lol'ed.
