Re: Debate (Might Offend, Sorry)

well i think we kill animals all day bacause we think their not as smart as us so babies who haven't been born yet are the same also if the baby was abortioned it was probably for a good reason like it would have a bad life or something i think the mother shouldn't get knocked up if she doesn't want tio face the consequences

Re: Debate (Might Offend, Sorry)

Yeah sorry I keep forgetting to check the dates.

Re: Debate (Might Offend, Sorry)

All of these are very good points to bring up. However I don’t see anyone bringing up the points of the psychological after effects of abortion on the women and men involved. I speak from personal experience. While I was in college my girlfriend got pregnant and it was revealed to me that she did not know if it were my child or not. Hard decisions were made between her, the other man, and me with the end result being abortion. Neither I nor anyone involved in that can truly justify are actions. However we used excuses like it wouldn’t be right to bring a child into this world until we were ready. After the fact we separated (it was for the best), and she fell into a deep state of depression as did I. however it ended with her suicide and I shut myself off from the world for about a year. This is an extreme case but there are many documented cases of deep psychological scares from young people who truly don’t understand what they are doing. I do not think abortion should be illegal but I do think there should be more of an effort to educate young people on alternative ways to deal with this type of problem.

There is no final answer to this, where life starts could be harder to answer than the meaning of life. One could for example ask if male masturbation is murder, since the sperm ejaculated are basicly thrown away. Is a sperm human life too?

I myself feel like I can't determine the answer to such a question and will stay neutral in this.

Along the same line is a woman Not getting pregnant and allowing the egg to die.

I personally beleive that things (Like abortion, murder) aren't good or evil all by themselves they are good or evil based on how they affect the quality of life. Most of the problem with trying to ban abortion centers around the well being of the mother. If carrying a child to term would put the mother's life at risk is it immoral to not perform an abortion?

A sort of different question is can we decide for ourselves what is good or evil or do we need to have someone else decide that for us?

..I don't even know what to say. Rep+ for a very good point

Re: Debate (Might Offend, Sorry)

I personally think that abortion as a form of contraception is horrible. But that's my OPINION and it shouldn't be LAW.

Abortion as a means of protecting/saving the life of the mother is what is keeping abortions legal

The decision to have a child or abort it is one that will Truely shape your Destiny. Interesting how this subject actually cuts to the heart of what fable is about. Choosing between right and wrong and shaping your destiny.

Re: Debate (Might Offend, Sorry)

I trained as a post-abortion and crisis pregnancy counsellor after having one kid unexpectedly and one miscarriage - the first thing we are taught is that you cannot judge the person who has the awful decision to make as to whether to keep or terminate their unborn child. I only veered away from an abortion myself because I was so frightened I went into a form of shock (confirmed by doctors) until my kid was a year old.

The trauma people go through is incredible - the physical after effects and of course the psychological damage. Nightmares, flashbacks, guilt, depression - the fear you may never have kids again and if done in secret, the fear of being found out.

I know one girl who took it lightly - stupid girl I worked with once who just saw abortion as a form of contraception. She can't have kids now - and she's just starting to realise what she's done. At the time she didn't care, but now she's paying for her attitude. She puts those who struggle with such a major decision in a bad light.

Re: Debate (Might Offend, Sorry)

Angel,
You mentioned the young lady who used abortion as a form of birth control and her attitude at the time of her actions. Also the fact that she is just now accepting the grave nature of the decisions she made. Some people do not understand, or choose not to understand, that actions have consequences. This happens with all people at different times in their lives. It is a defense mechanism that helps us deal with stress and circumstances that seem out of our control. However no one escapes these feelings forever.

I believe you are correct in the fact that her attitude at the time can and does change the view points of people around her on this particular subject. The people whose view points are affected however may not be around when she must comes to terms with her decisions and it creates a false idea that abortion can be taken so lightly without adverse effects on those involved. This is why I believe that an education program to clear up myths about abortion would be very affective in helping all people involved

Re: Debate (Might Offend, Sorry)

I agree. There is not enough education surrounding the topic and certainly not nearly enough time and attention given to discussing the emotional aspects of abortion and indeed sex and relationships in general.

In my school, two old women came from the local anti-abortion charity and showed a horrific and detailed video of abortion surgery. That was it - nothing about anything else. It was just shock tactics and that simply wasn't good enough - or suitable for a class of 14 year old girls.

Men and women need support in this area - it affects them both and I believe not enough is done to educate and care for those affected. In my local hospital in my home town all post-abortion patients are still being put on the same ward as those who have just given birth - it just isn't right, in my opinion. No one deserves that kind of treatment.
