"DOMA instructs all federal officials, and indeed all persons with whom same-sex couples interact, including their own children, that their marriage is less worthy than the marriages of others...By seeking to displace this protection and treating those persons as living in marriages less respected than others, the federal statute is in violation of the Fifth Amendment."


tl;dr: States within the union that recognize gay married couples are now entitled to the same federal benefits as opposite-sex couples.

It's not perfect, but it's progress!
 
inb4 Republicans whine over how the ruling "destroys the family unit" or whatever they usually spout.
 
I don't see why its anything worth celebrating, its disgustingly overdue and these laws should be repealed worldwide.

You can't stop love, governments & religion do not own marriage, marriage out dates entire nations.

In NZ the bill for equal gay marriage has passed and is set in stone in August I think..? Quite cool, cant remember how long ago it came out, maybe 2-3 months ago.. The first country in Oceania!
