Fable III Magic System

Two part question folks. ^_^

A.)What changes would you like to see to the magic system from Fable II?

B.)What changes do you anticipate to be made in Fable III?

A) personally, i would love to see more spells and a retimed system so that you don't get hacked up while charging... but what i would most love to see is the ability to synthesize spells together, multiplying the total number of spells.

B) while i would love to see major improvements and whatnot, i'm expecting them to only revamp the graphics, switch out a spell or two for several new ones, and leave the system as it is. i hope you prove me wrong peter!

Re: Fable III Magic System

A) I want a combination of the fable I's system and Fable II's system. Basically, the ability to charge spells instead of losing mana, or using high level spells at the cost of mana. But since they want to get rid of health bars and stuff, I'm thinking of like a charge kind thing where, you press the max powered will thing and then you have to wait until the next spell.

B) I expect it to be a whole new system that might work. Because the second didnt work well. Something along the lines of what I said before.

Re: Fable III Magic System

A) I agree with Ryu to a certain extent. I'd like a combination of both magic systems, but rather than using spells at the cost of mana only when that spell gets to a higher level, I'd like there to be two types of each spell. For example, there could be two different fire spells (like enflame/fireball/inferno). One would require charging and use very little mana, while the other allows you to unleash a powerful blast of fire without charging, but it takes down a significant amount of mana. I would imagine that this kind of magic system would take quite a bit of work since it would require making two of every spell, so something like it probably wouldn't happen. As for the spells themselves, I'd like them to keep all of Fable 2's spells, and bring back spells from TLC that aided in ranged and melee combat (multi strike, multi arrow, berserk, etc.). I'd also like them to add a water-based and earth-based spell to go along with inferno and vortex.

B) If Fable 3's magic system follows the pattern that we've seen so far, it will be completely different from the magic systems of the first two games. In one Fable 3 interview, Peter Molyneux mentioned something about Fable 2's magic system being very clumsy due to having to charge your spells, and greatly implied that they want to change that, so Fable 3's magic system damn sure won't be the same as the one we use in Fable 2.

Re: Fable III Magic System

I'm surprised that you didn't mention that it's called "Will" Necro.

I want it to be like in FII, all simple, and easy.

Re: Fable III Magic System

i want bow and arrows and be able to attach spells to it like a bow that electrifies people when it pierces their skin

Why?

(10 characters)

Re: Fable III Magic System

Wasn't it confirmed that FIII's magic system would be completely different? Like rings and different spell combinations or something?

That being said, I want spells with more power. I want to be able to control the weather, and seriously **** up a lot of people.

This.

I want stuff like multi-hit, and beserk back as well. Besides slowtime they were the spells I used most.

Re: Fable III Magic System

bring back fable tlc magic system, it worked just fine... i hated fable 2's system

Re: Fable III Magic System

Why did you hate it? I loved being able to target it and have an area of effect. The only flaw was not being able to have more than one spell for any given level on hand at a time.

Re: Fable III Magic System

I though the Fable II system work well for the game. In Fable 1 you needed all the different spells on hand because there was a lot more pressure in battle, but then it gave you no sense of power what so ever. In Fable II it was all about working out you personal will system and making the player feel super powerful.

For example I had:
1 Inferno - quickly lob fire balls
2 Force Push - instant kill on weak enemies
3 Inferno - good for lots of Hollow Men hoards
4 Shock -To take down large groups of enemies or be used after Vortex
5 Vortex - ULTIMATE POWER!!!

My aprihensive that Fable III, what with this item based spell system, may take away the veriety of spells that the player has on hand at one time. I liked mixing up the Spells in Fable II to make a naice colourful battle sequence.

Re: Fable III Magic System

I thought that the Fable II magic system was alright. I really liked inferno and vortex as well as shock. I was very sad about how lame force push was. Level five didn't even knock over half the enemies standing right next to you :realmad: .

Raise Dead was cool but I liked Summon better. It was a pretty cool idea that your creature would become more powerful once it defeated a more powerful creature. If they combined the multiple creatures as you level up the spell with the creature leveling from Fable/TLC that would be awesome. Imagine that each new creature would start out as a beetle and need to level up in it's own right!

Time control was too short most of the time but it worked well as a level one spell to allow you to prep higher spells. Chaos was too short as well. Turncoat lasted much longer and was more fun. I loved having the guards battle it out while I sat back

What I would like to see is spells powerful enough for me to be able to rely on them the way I had to with my sword and gun. I didn't feel like I could full be a mage due to the relative weakness of the spells. Even if I had to use them in combination to have that effect. Force push to hold them off, Shock to stun them, inferno to burn them then vortex to toss them away.

Overall I liked the magic system in Fable II but more often than not I found myself using spell to add variety instead of because I thought they would be an effective way of dispatching my enemies.

Re: Fable III Magic System

I'd like to reintroduce the Evil/Good spells from TLC. No need for a multi-shot, but I'd like to hulk out or become invulnerable... or maybe drain health/heal myself and others if the dynamics of the game calls for it.

It'd be nice to see an elemental frost spell to balance the shock, inferno and vortex....
And some extra status change spells to balance the overpowered slow time with the relatively ineffective chaos.

maybe balancing it between Fable I's system of Attack, Surround and Physical spells with Fable II's more limited system of damage (inferno type) vs. status effect (chaos), would do the trick.

I still think it's a minor flaw, and the pro of the targeting system make up for it.

you could still target ppl in fable tlc there was a lock on system

in fable 1 there was enflame(area) and fire ball(target) witch you can cast spontaneously along with a 3rd spell
in fable 2 you just have the fire spell witch does both but you have to charge it to make it powerfull <- i hated that

Re: Fable III Magic System

I want magic that could effect like an entire city like an earthquake ability or tsunami or smg. A spell that could wipe out half an army

Yeah, but having one spell with different effects depending on context is way better than having two separate, yet similar, spells. I just like the way they made it more streamlined.

Yeah, then I could really be a badass. I just also want there to be harder monsters (as in, not just one almightily hard boss fight at the end, but that would be good too) to balance it out.

haveing 3 fully powered spells at your disposal at any time i like better

you also scroll though your spells (fully powered) 3 at a time not slowly charging them 1 at a time,
