Finding a publisher?

My english teacher read one of my fan fics (i printed it out and gave it too him dont worry he doesnt lurk here Lol)
and he said i have alot of potnetial and i should look for a publisher, i asked how and he said he didn't know . . . . . so does anyone know how i would go about getting a publisher?

Re: Finding a publisher?

To be honest, I have no idea. Search like crazy I guess.

Re: Finding a publisher?

im pretty sure you need to get an agent or manager or something like that, good luck i kinda wanna read the thing you wrote

Re: Finding a publisher?

Look around for literary agents - do your homework very carefully though and make sure that they are worth the money and that they won't rip you off. Google it to start off with and see what's available.

Alternatively, distribute as many copies of your work as you can make to as many different publishing companies as possible - saves you agency fees but of course you will have to do all the graft yourself which will take time and money (postage fees etc).

Be prepared for a lot of rejection letters. It's nothing personal, so get a thick skin.

If and when you do get signed up, get a lawyer - a damn good one - because it is too easy to get screwed over. Sign nothing until it's been checked and double checked again. And hang onto your original copy.

^Thanks, well i guess first thing i should finish writing my book, And i was thinking of becomeing a lawyer so thats another fee i wont have to pay :D, though i do think ill w8 til ive finished school before i start trying to get published.

Re: Finding a publisher?

It depends - you can wait or you can get started right now...if anything, you're not bogged down in the every day crapness of being a "responsible adult" yet with all the rubbish that goes with it so you have a bit more freedom in that sense to do what you enjoy and try to get noticed now...

Re: Finding a publisher?

^ good point! well ill start sending out my first chapter as soon ive finished my up coming exam that way i wont have to revise for a while and can do more on my story.

Re: Finding a publisher?

Publishing a fan fiction probably won't happen. Both Microsoft and Lionhead would have to approve it as the moment it is published it is no longer fan fiction but part of the offcial story, and they never really read outside of authors that have material already published.

Re: Finding a publisher?

Is your novel fan fiction? As Tyloric said, you're not going to get that published.

If it is not fan fiction, then you will need alot of patience and persistence. If you're work is any good then you will get noticed one day.
