Followers are employees?

Watching the "Fable 3 and John Cleese (Inside Lionhead)" video if you pause it at 1:09 you can see it says "An army is required to protect the town" and shows the amount of followers you have with a deduction below which i assume to be the amount of followers deducted to hire guards. Does this mean you can only hire people loyal to you?

Probably not. But mercenary forces are common in these sorta things.

it would be pretty awesome to be a all powerful country and loan your services or military out to other countries for money and prestige... then again as of now their is only albion and aurora but if they make more countries with DLC we might be able to function foreign relations.
