For singers out there

Re: For singers out there

I've just realised that you're Sephi's boyfriend after reading the "What does everybody look like?" thread, and I can't help but feel like I should have tried to help a little more.

There are plenty of creative exercises for singing - some harder to explain than others. I'd be happy to help in any way I can.

Re: For singers out there

Well... I'm not asking for special treatment, although i appreciate the help.

My major problem is that I can't seem to yell the way I want... Corey Taylor as a role model for that I'm still finding it hard. I sing clean just fine, though it tends to be the the somewhat higher pitches. Sucks cuz I'm a baritone, so my lows and high are both awkward.

Honestly... range increasing exercises would help a LOT. TRA's advice about the yoga sounds very useful.

I believe I need to start performing some basic warm-ups before starting to practice. I usually just sing an easy song or two to warm up, but that should really be the second step.

Teaching would be a lot easier in real life sadly, have you had any formal training in any form?

One thing I suggest is for you to record yourself singing so that not only would we be able to better understand what pointers to give, but you would also gain quite a lot of confidence in your own abilities which is pretty well the most important factor when it comes to singing.

Droded you can redeem yourself with an autographed picture of yourself.

Re: For singers out there

I've been doing death metal vocals for like, half a year, but some things I've really found to be helpful is...

1. Warm up, and drink warm water or warm honey tea (I make my own from my dad's tea and adding some boiling water and honey into it).

2. NEVER drink cold water before singing, it'll shock your vocal cords.

3. Sing notes from low to high in a clean voice, then in your distorted voice, and if your throat starts to hurt, stop immediately. You could hurt your vocal cords. (You probably already know this though, if you have 5 years of experience.)

Sorry if this is well known/sucky advice, I've only been in the vocals for half a year.

Anyways, what kind of music do you sing? Do you do inhaled vocals or exhaled?

Also I wouldn't try to model my voice after someone else's. I mean, it's good to have someone to look up to, but not when you're trying to copy 'em.

Also, for like, low growls/screams (think JFAC) mine are still kind of middle-ish (May be because I'm a pubescent teen), but what are some tips on getting them like, super low (think Necrophagist)?

Re: For singers out there

I'm actually quite impressed with the number of singers on this forum.

It would be cool to see what the rest of you can do.

Don't expect much from me, I have been told I am pretty good, and I have been told I am terrible, and I cannot tell by myself :D

Re: For singers out there

I should probably mention that I'm almost definitely not as accomplished as my boasts make myself out to be - I just happen to be excellent at boasting.

Ugh, I hate uploading videos to youtube. I'm super OCD and I'm also a perfectionists. Then I always get nervous on messing up and then mess up and take like 2000 tries on one cover. D:

lmao. I use to do that too. xD

Fantastic, if enough of us post simple videos like this one there could be a real singing community.
