^Well my persons appearences matters to me because I want him to look the way I want. It makes me feel more connected to the game. If I wanted to just kill people I'd go to GTA or AC1 (where you could actually kill innocents).

I dont think that characters on vid games need to be appealing in that sort of way. I think the main character should look kick-arse, and the people dont necessarily have to look ugly, but I wouldn't make a big deal about it if they were. Just as long as MY character looks good. It makes me feel more superior to all the uglier people anyway.
