Gears of War movie gets reborn

Epic lead designer Cliff Bleszinski has revealed that the Gears of War movie lives on - and that the project is being restarted from scratch.

The film adaption of Epic's wildly popular third-person shooter hit a wall when director Len Wiseman left the project earlier this year.

His departure brought work on the film to a standstill - until now. Bleszinski confirmed at Comic-Con that Epic is going back to look at the script and starting from scratch.

The aim is to re-work the story and bring down the budget of the movie. Bleszinski rather candidly said that the original $100 million budget was putting studios off.

He reference District 9 as an influence - which originally started life as the Halo movie.​

If they're to make a Gears film, it'd be a better idea to work it as CGI rather than live-action. More freedom, don't have to go through the trouble of finding actors who not only can act the part but also look it (is there anyone who actually looks and sounds like Fenix?), plus you'll be able to have the film fully reflect the visual art style of the game (big muscular characters, huge jaws, big guns, etc).

If they're to make a Gears film, it'd be a better idea to work it as CGI rather than live-action. More freedom, don't have to go through the trouble of finding actors who not only can act the part but also look it (is there anyone who actually looks and sounds like Fenix?), plus you'll be able to have the film fully reflect the visual art style of the game (big muscular characters, huge jaws, big guns, etc).

I suppose I wouldn't mind major CGI for the Locust but I'd prefer actors for the main characters but as you said, the characters are VERY unique. It wouldn't be to difficult to find actors for Baird and Cole but Marcus and Dom would be a pain in the ass.

District 9 was brilliant but it was created by some very talented guys who were working with an idea that people didnt have high expectations of. Games to movies have a theme of being terrible so this movie will be under strutiny from the get go.
