Stephen King once wrote: "Nightmares exist outside of logic, and there’s little fun to be had in explanations; they’re antithetical to the poetry of fear."

I'm in the mood for some horror movies right now. But I don't want Scream nor do I don't want to find out that the jealous boyfriend kill the stupid sluts. I'm talking about the unknown here, the horror from the depths of the oceans or beyond the stars. Ever seen The Mist? Anyway, commence suggesting!

"In this film, a young woman from a northeastern college shares a ride home to Delaware for Christmas with a strange young man she meets from their school Ride Board. After a few hours of driving, the guy detours to what he considers a shortcut, Route 606. The girl (Blunt) discovers the guy is not from her hometown and is an admirer-classmate from school. He reveals he knows much more about her than she had realized, causing her to become very nervous. "

That... doesn't sounds very promising... Sounds pretty cliché and the exact opposite of what I'm looking for, really.

watch it before you juge it
if you looking for some thing like the mist... the thing is really all i can think of...

Alright. But if that guy doesn't turn out to be an tentacled horror from the dark beyond in disguise, I'll eat your face. It really does sound like a "deranged stalker"-cliché.

its not buddy, but its also not ****ing cthulhu either. By The Mist im thinking psychological horror = not knowing who/what the monster is and masked douche killing sluts dose not count: Have fun

Now monster movies is tottaly diffrent story...

The Thing, both old and new, is without doubt extremely awesome. I don't think you'll be disappointed with either. I can't really think of any others though... I don't watch much horror movies.

I skimmed through the list and found:
The Amityville Horror (2005)
The Blair Witch Project
Darkness Falls (2003)
The Devil Inside
The Exorcist
Hellraiser
The Omen (2006)
Paranormal Activity
Rosemary's Baby
The Shining
What Lies Beneath
Wind Chill <- Oh hai
^the ones that i have seen atleast, alot on the wiki list are comedies (evil dead, ghost busters ect...)

So I'm currently watching Splinter. It is very similar to The Thing in that there is an infections lifeform that takes over it's victims and it focuses heavily on the interaction between the characters and how they react to the situation. If you liked The Thing, original or remake, it is definitely worth a watch.

Only complaint I've got is that whenever the action gets going, they insist on shaking the camera as if an earthquake hit. There are other cinematic techniques to convey the chaos of the scene!

The 1958 Dracula film with Christopher Lee in it was good, back when vampires were actually considered monsters and not just moody emo teenagers with love problems like today's twilight.

Also I like the shining, both the movie and television version.

Jesus Camp.

I trust you've already seen all the Re-Animator films.

Some films you might be interested in:

[Rec]
The Descent

There's a ton of others I'm forgetting right now.

Have you seen The descent and Rec part II?

Rec part II freaked me out more than the first, in fact I was thinking of buying them both very awesome modern horror. Also those monsters in the descent remind me of a effed up gollum.
