Ok, so after letting my inner Harry Potter fanboy out of the dungeon for the night to go see the midnight screening of the last movie, gotta say I was impressed. There were a few cheesy moments in there, and they left out a few minor things from the book (like always), but overall I thought it was a fantastic finale to a fantastic movie/book series.

I don't know what it is, but nothing else really gets to me like the Harry Potter series does. I always walk away not being able to think of anything else for a few days, and for people my age and younger, I don't think you had a real childhood if you weren't secretly waiting for a letter from Hogwarts on your 11th birthday.

Anyone else seen the last movie? Thoughts? Opinions on the series overall?

I had no childhood, you say? =(

Anyway, I haven't seen it yet. Same goes for Half-Blood Prince. I'm not a fan of the series, but I still liked watching the movies, so I'll have to go check out the last three. Especially since everybody agrees it's awesome.

Oh God, this takes me back.

I remember my 11th birthday... not getting one :(

But, I think that the series was good to start, a few flimsy films in the middle but if it's ended in a way you say it has I think overall, the series has been an amazing success.

The movies have been improving from the start and after seeing Part 1 of the final chapter I was sure I'd go watch the second one too. The books, of course, didn't always go uphill, but I have to say the overall change into more mature atmosphere has been well translated into the movie.

Shush, you can't talk as if you've grown up. You're still a child.

Eh, I'll see it when it's out on DVD. I've never disliked Harry Potter at all, it's just not my thing. There are various things that I'm a huge nerd about, but Harry Potter isn't one of them.

The first few books are cherished childhood memories. Especially the first one. I love how it took me, like it did Harry, from the boring mundane world into a world of magic and wonder.

Love the books, and enjoyed the first few movies.. but the last few movies didn't feel that much like magical adventures anymore, if you know what I mean. Kinda felt more like action dramas.

Yes, but I'm older than 11... I never actually said I was out of childhood.
Shush, you're a child. You speak nonsense.

Well excuuuse me, for trying to use the upsides of being of legal age.

Don't use the classic Forsythian excuse "You are underage and your opinion is therefore invalid" ¬_¬

I know, man. Shattering. :(

TBH I really enjoyed all the movies.

Yeah, I know what you mean. I think it was good how they evolved like that though, parallel to the maturation of the characters. You couldn't really keep the feel of the first couple in the later ones because it wouldn't have felt right.

Too much romance.

Yeah, I don't really like how J.K. shoehorned in some "romance" by pairing off some main characters. It felt a little forced, but it needed to be done to give that happily ever after feeling at the end.[/quote]

Same, but I just think the Triwizard Tournament and the Order of Pheonix were slightly less than the quality of the ones that came before it. Not to say they weren't good. I just think the drop of value is due to the fact they stray quite a lot from the book.

the series is a classic. it's sad that some people will grow up equating it to twilight or just plain hating on fans of the series. it got the world reading books again, and was huge to so many kids, teens, and adults. even my granddad read the books when he heard about them and he loves harry potter with the best of them.

i don't see how you could complain of the movies turning into more action oriented/romantic/darker. it's exactly what the books did, after all. the characters get older, the dangers become greater, and they start learning to master their hormones. not to mention characters getting killed off... the three main actors aside, a lot of the adult actors are very practiced in darker movies

I had no childhood, you say? =(
that's right, you didn't. shame on you.

I'd say the the increase in romance was a flaw shared by both the books and the movies.
