He's barely aware of when my birthday is, let alone some pointless celebration aimed at selling as many Hallmark cards as possible.

They have a Father's Day in Russia but it's a completely different thing altogether and is celebrated in February. I think so long as my dad can get hammered and spend three weeks up to his eyeballs in vodka and badly cooked shashlik, he's not fussed what sort of holiday it is or whether anyone else is celebrating it.

Dood! i didn't now you were Russian! I keep finding out random stuff about people on here.

I dunno, I like all these commercial family holidays because my grandma comes round and we have a huge lunch and play card games :3

Yeah, shashlik ( šašlõkk -Est.) sure is great, ate a lot of it today and yesterday.
I only had it once when my dad had his second marriage (I think he's currently with wife number 3...Can't keep up these days...) and it was sooooo nice.

Nah, not russian - my dad married a russian space scientist (as you do) and has recently been given citizenship over there so he spends 80% of the year in Russia and the rest over here for work and stuff. Haven't seen him since 2007 but we Skype from time to time.

Re: I ****ing hate Father's Day

I always wondered why the rest of the world doesn`t now what it is, but I guess it`s good to have something others don`t and then brag about it.

Shashlik is a traditional St. John`s Day (Jaanipäev) meal in Estonia - wiki has all the answers.

Moonfever - shashlik - lamb meat in vinegar/onion marinade is the best shashlik, don`t believe any other talk about yogurt or wine marinades, they can`t compare.
