I just can't figure it out!
So, i recently quit gamestop and started working at a privately owned movie theater near my house. My friend works there and i've been trying to get a job there for a year and a half now.
I've heard two different stories as to how i finally got hired. The main projectionist (who everyone else seems to hate for a reason i can't figure out, but i get along with) told me that i was hired because he likes me and put in a very good word. Also stating that my friend doesn't understand that telling someone to "hire someone because he's my friend" could be a potentially bad thing when it comes to work. Basically his story is that they had no plans to hire me until he jumped in.
My friends story is totally different. He claims he asked the owner to hire me, it was the beginning of the school year so people were quitting and going to college etc... so i got the job because the time was just right.
I'm not sure who to believe because
A) everyone dislikes the projectionist for a reason i don't understand, yet his story makes perfect sense and he raises a good point about saying someone is your friend when trying to get them a job.
B) my friend hasn't gotten me this job in the 18 months since i submitted my application.
C) he's one of my best friends, and i'm positive that both at least think they are telling the truth.
I know that ultimately it doesn't matter because i have the job now either way, but i was wondering if anyone here could offer some unbiased insight.
