Just Bought Mass Effect

Yeah, I picked up Mass Effect today. The first one, that is.

I've just
Completed the mission where you help the colonists

So far it's ok. It's not as good as I thought it would be. Probably because I'm not that far into it.

I just thought I'd share that with you all since you all seem to bum Mass Effect.

Any tips would be great! ^_^

Re: Just Bought Mass Effect

Are you going for any achievements, or just playing?

Upgrade your weapons and armor, get new guns, etc...

Re: Just Bought Mass Effect

Well well. Another Mass Effecter come to say how awesome it is. I played the first mission. It sucked big hairy testes.

It's crappy so far. Hope it picks up or it would have been a waste of time.

@Daemon:
I'm playing it properly atm. I'll do achievements on my next playthrough(s).

Re: Just Bought Mass Effect

It'll pick up once you're made a Spectre. Those saying it sucks were probably expecting another Gears of War or something.

Re: Just Bought Mass Effect

I play it for the epic storyline. The combat is nice, but I just LOVE the story.

I've been a spectre for about two hours :'(

Dammit.

Gears of War got notin on Bioshock (1, that is).

I just really don't see what's so spectacular about Mass Effect (aside from giving a bunch of sexually frustrated middle aged gamers hardons every time an 'alien sideboob' appears)

Re: Just Bought Mass Effect

Mass Effect is about what every single BioWare game is about these days: top-notch story, setting and just general awesomeness. If you want a game that satisfies your appetite for destruction and general mayhem and whatnot, BioWare isn't for you.

Ah, that's why I don't like it.

*turns back to Kingdom for Keflings*

Ah... Damnit...

Then you should know that you will have to do at least 4 playthrough's, including the one you're doing now.

Agreed on both counts the writing and moral decisions and choices that actually change how the games and sequels pan out is superb. Actually takes Fables tagline of 'For every choice a consequence' but actually plays it out instead of using it as a sales pitch.

Re: Just Bought Mass Effect

Yeah, you'll need three playthroughs if you want all the achievements, I'm pretty sure, and you'd have to be really careful.

On the subject of it sucking... if you think it sucks I question your approval of the RPG genre. Seriously, the things that suck about it are the things that suck about all RPGs-- wordy, slow, make you run around a lot-- and they get rid of the turn-bases combat in favor of third-person shooting.

But yeah, the combat is a lot better in ME2, and some of the bad stuff from ME1 (like the way Shepard acts like a poorly crafted Disney robot) is fixed.

But like Tsuyu and Drakan said, the point is the story and the moral choices. Though the sidequests do get repetitive.
