my sincerest apologies, in that case. Lynne, use my quote!!!

Heh, thanks, but unecessary. I have my opinions, they have theirs. In the end the only opinion that matters is the crew over at Lionhead and what they think is going to sell the most copies and be the most beneficial game to them. As the game is no doubt completed except for minor bugs, we're just going to have to see how it goes before we get our panties in a twist.

And for the record, I also found the game easy, so no trying to get rid of THIS casual gamer.

I know and that's what upsets me the most. I don't care if they ruin television, movies or music but why the **** did they have to go and ruin the gaming industry? Ugh.

Re: Lionhead kills off 'mindless' combat for Fable 3

what I think is that it was way too easy. I mean, you never really die (although a good excuse for that is that the player is a hero), so it gets real easy; losing experience isn't really a big deal, and scars aren't too troublesome either. I think Lionhead should relook into what they were originally going to do in Fable II; after they scrapped the idea of the player's character being replaced by their son/daughter, they made it so that when you were knocked out, the enemies would like beat you up and disfigure you and stuff, but they then scrapped that idea cause the game testers kept restarting the game whenever this happened. I think the whole disfiguring thing is a bit too heavy, but they should've kept working with that, cause nobody gives a damn about scars and loss of experience (most of the time).

Nah, they just need to stop making games accessible to the casuals. The faster we get rid of them the faster we can get some real quality games made.

If we get rid of casual gamers then lionhead will make barely any money from Fable III. Casual gamers built Fable!

Re: Lionhead kills off 'mindless' combat for Fable 3

yeah fable is a bit too easy, but I guess that is what LH want the game to be about. Power and maybe more story than fable II. Hopefully

Re: Lionhead kills off 'mindless' combat for Fable 3

GrimWhim, who do you think you are, acting elitist and labelling yourself superior to casuals? I'm not a hardcore gamer myself, but that doesn't mean I suddenly don't know how to play a game. What kind of messed up attitude do you have? "Stop trying to make money, I'm selfish and want this game to be this way so do it right now, you PoS developer!"

Why does every single video game have to be for "serious" gamers? There are many games out there, and many of them are very hardcore action, similar POV to Fable. Devil May Cry, Ninja Gaiden (God of War is definitely for casuals though). Why can't you enjoy a little bit of relaxing fun like everybody else? You're basically saying, "I hate pop music, therefore there shouldn't be any. The sooner we get rid of pop lovers, the sooner we'll get some quality music". It's like Miley Cyrus. You can bash her all you want, but in the end, she has more money than you.

Yeah DAMN them for wanting to make a profit!
but in all seriousness I do think they have to draw a line somewhere in the ratio of "quality:greed"

I would like some proof here...
First, please define the difference between a casual and hardcore gamer - where is the line? amount of time spend? amount of money spend? skill?

I don't believe Fable III will draw in more casual gamers because of its accessability, but because of the marketing.
Think about it - Fabel III doesn't look easy, it looks vast - and at no point in ANY commercial do they say "for casual gamers" or "easy as hell"
I'm not sure what defines a casual gamer any more, but I don't think a casual gamer would look into a game, they would buy it because the commercial was awesome, or because they saw it at a friends place - and NOT because they think it looks MUCH easier than any other action adventure / RPG game

RPG's are generally for serious gamers...
Lionhead calling Fable III an "action adventure" is simply to get to get more casual gamers to buy their game.

Note that I am most likely a casual gamer, because I don't have a lot of time to play the games I want. But I still think Fable II was way too easy - I've met more challenge from a Pac-Man game :P

That's what I'm saying, I even had a smiley face at the end of my post, so you know I'm reeeeeeaaaaaally serious-like

You don't have to be a "hardcore" gamer but casual gamers have been the very reason the gaming industry has declined and I'm not talking financially either. I don't need nor want every game to be another Devil May Cry or Ninja Gaiden but I definitely don't want to see any games that are so unbearably easy that I lose interest halfway through the game. The developers can make all the money they want but they need to stop directing them at you disgusting casuals. Why? Because when they do that they care more about producing a half-assed game than they do with producing a high quality game filled with plenty of challenges.

Also, what does Miley Cyrus have to do with anything? I don't think her having more money than me because she has a terrible singing voice is relevant at all.

Casual gamers didn't build anything except Farmville and Dance Dance Revolution. Don't flatter yourself.

Re: Lionhead kills off 'mindless' combat for Fable 3

I'm with GrimWhim on this one.

Casual gamers have the focus of Nintendo, making their Wii less a console and more of a portable family game night, no more hardcore single player games anymore.

Now M$ seems to be jumping on the bandwagon and soon we'll see 10000+ additions of Guitar Hero and DDO.

Thank you! You deserve some rep.

Exactly! Not that I ever had a problem with Nintendo focusing a little more on the casual/mainstream gamers than the hardcore ones. It was nice to relax, hang with some friends and play games like Super Smash Bros. or Wii Sports or anything along those lines.

It's only a matter of time before Sony does too. Unless they already have and I just didn't notice it.

Grim's right, Lion Head won't be at a loss if we were to get rid of the casuals. WE built Fable. Funny you should mention Ninja Gaiden and DMC, because they're among some of the only decent and challenging games around nowadays. Mini Ninjas? WTF...

Little Big Planet
you should try playing Wii sports with your friends while drinking.
Tennis is freaking DANGEROUS! :O

Re: Lionhead kills off 'mindless' combat for Fable 3

Personally, I just feel that it's extremely irresponsible to blame the Fable franchise on casuals. In my opinion, Fable 1 was just as easy as Fable 2 so there was no sudden reduce in difficulty, meaning it was going to be that way from the beginning.

Fable II was slightly more difficult than the original Fable but even PM stated that these games were designed with casuals in mind.

Re: Lionhead kills off 'mindless' combat for Fable 3

If Fable games were designed with casual players in mind, then wouldn't you more hardcore players be much happier playing other games that are not? If Fable is too easy, and isn't complex enough for you, wouldn't it be easier to just find another game that is? If a hardcore gamer likes a game that was made to be accessible, and gets ****ed that it's not as hardcore as you'd like it..isn't that more the gamers fault and less the casual's fault? I mean, it seems like you guys know what you're getting yourself into?

I'm not going to get into this. I have no love for casuals and a conversation like this will devolve into a flame war. I'm not looking to get banned so I'm sorry I can't give you a real reply.

It's too bad you can't have a reasonable, adult conversation about this without resulting to flames and insults, because I'm really very interested in your opinion and why you have it.

I can and I have but I just don't like casuals.

Re: Lionhead kills off 'mindless' combat for Fable 3

i'm glad that they are making the combat system more in depth. my X button is pretty much destroyed from the first 2 games.

that would be a wonderful idea for any game, like adaptive difficulty from lego star wars (god its been years since i went on that), but less cheesy.

and what's wrong with being....cheesy?
