Marvel To Tackle The Fall Of Halo's Reach, Rise Of Master Chief

The story behind Halo's most famous Spartan, Master Chief, is ready to be (re)told in comic book form this September. Marvel Comics will adapt Eric Nylund's bestselling novel prequel to Halo: Reach as part of a "graphic fiction event."

Halo: Fall of Reach "Boot Camp #1" is no mere comic book. It's graphic fiction and sequential art, a co-production between Marvel and Halo brand watchers 343 Industries. It will retell the story of John-117, the young boy who not only casts a mean shadow but is indoctrinated into the Spartan program and battles the Covenant threat in Halo: Combat Evolved.

Writer Brian Reed and artist Felix Ruiz will handle creative duties on the Halo book, apparently "a great place to jump on board," according to Marvel.

The Halo: Fall of Reach comic will drop sometime this September, right around the time Halo: Reach makes its way to the Xbox 360.

I love comics. I might end up following this one. I already know the sotry behind the coin from the books :P

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!

Re: Marvel To Tackle The Fall Of Halo's Reach, Rise Of Master Chief

What is it Firis!?!?!

Re: Marvel To Tackle The Fall Of Halo's Reach, Rise Of Master Chief

considering that marvel would be held to keeping the ethnicity of the master chief true to cannon, all speculation that he's black (including the casting of denzel washington for a movie roll) have just been shot down by that single picture.

Re: Marvel To Tackle The Fall Of Halo's Reach, Rise Of Master Chief

He's a little black in that picture. Oh wait...is that white? He's sort of both right there. :P

Re: Marvel To Tackle The Fall Of Halo's Reach, Rise Of Master Chief

I was expecting him to be black and his identity reveal to be more climactic, but at least it's not as bad as how Dr. Claw was handled...

... I mean come on.

^Lol.

You guys, that might not be chief, and this is a comic by marvel. They're not the same creators. They can modify the story. They can replace Chief with SpongBobSquarePants that has all his capabilities, but with an obvious different appearence, but it's not his appearence that matters, it's what he represents and why he's there.

Someone please get rid of Master Chief.

no, just like how anything created with the name star wars has to be approved as cannon by george lucas, it'd be silly if marvel were to make a graphic novel about a different master chief.

also, i hope your joking about that not being the chief. notice the silhouette behind him? :P

Re: Marvel To Tackle The Fall Of Halo's Reach, Rise Of Master Chief

Yeah. I'm pretty sure that's him.

I know it's obviously him. I just didn't want to jump to an obvious conclusion.

Master Chief is white with white hair and blue eyes. I read it in one of the books. He's like Anderson Cooper on steroids with MJOLNIR armor.

Re: Marvel To Tackle The Fall Of Halo's Reach, Rise Of Master Chief

If you've read the books, you know John is not black.

i've read the books. where do they specify his ethnicity? it's been a while so the details are pretty fuzzy, but i think i'd remember something like that when visualizing the story.
O.o

Re: Marvel To Tackle The Fall Of Halo's Reach, Rise Of Master Chief

Um I doubt he has white hair. Hes in his forties, so maybe dark gray hair, not white. He had brown hair as a kid, looks more blonde on the cover. I am loving the coin. He has white skin due to too much time in his suit. Please list the book and the piece of writing where he has white hair. I can't find this on halopedia and they are thorough with their work.

Re: Marvel To Tackle The Fall Of Halo's Reach, Rise Of Master Chief

I thought they shaved heads in the military...

Re: Marvel To Tackle The Fall Of Halo's Reach, Rise Of Master Chief

Thats for boot camp. John is described as having short hair.

Re: Marvel To Tackle The Fall Of Halo's Reach, Rise Of Master Chief

Why would it be white?

Re: Marvel To Tackle The Fall Of Halo's Reach, Rise Of Master Chief

He is most likely white, and the fact that he is freckled more confirms this, he is brown haired and brown eyed. I believe his hair was whitened with the SPARTAN genetic modification process. EDIT: Halopedia also says that he is described as Unnaturally pale.
